Nice job, Mike and crew! They came on time, assessed the real situation at our home, and adjusted the telephone-based cost estimate accordingly -- and we think fairly. They did the expanded job still in half a day. Price was very reasonable. They were efficient and tidy--and cleared gutters in difficult places on our 2-story, hillside home. Also cleared moss growing on/in the roofing. Helpful, cheerful, good interactions with us. We'll call them back next year.

Gabriel did a great job in performing roof and gutter repairs on our house. The scope of the project included gutter repair and cleaning, downspout clearing, new gutter screen installation, fastening stronger gutter brackets and application of roof sealant around stucco cracks. The project proposal was professionally presented with scope of work and all associated costs clearly spelled out. The job was performed efficiently and effectively, exactly as described. In addition, Gabriel was personally very easy to work with and he has a strong customer service focus. I would not hesitate to contact him in the future for additional work should the need arise.

There was a list of items from my home inspection that needed attention from the dry rot facia board replacements/seal/paint, cleaning/repair gutters, bathrooms caulking all round/adding trim to door, fixing the hole in the side garage door, stucco fixes/paint and numerous other smaller tasks. Bob made sure that I was satisfied with all the work and that is important. They did a great job. I'll be using them again.

Helen W Alameda, August 2016 I am very satisfied with the work SRS did for me. I lived in another house for 30 years, I had two roofs installed and they lasted approximately 15 years each. This is the first time I used SRS at my current residence and I have a feeling this roof may last twice as long as the last ones. The previous roofers were in and out in about a couple of weeks more or less. I really didn’t know what was going on then except that the new roof looked good. I paid for a new roof and that is what I got. The SRS job took longer to finish, but it seems I got more value for what I spent with their detailing. They did extra work tearing off additional layers of roofing, they completed extensive dry rot and carpentry work at the roof perimeter that was needed and installed extra flashings to prolong the life of some adjacent beams. The thing that separates SRS from the previous roofers is that Kasra, the owner of SRS, would explain everything to me daily on his job. He worked side by side with the roofers to insure everything was done correctly. He would regularly point out areas of concern on my roof. I could take care of it now, do it myself, hire them to do it or just catch it later. He also stated the pros and cons of delaying the work. My feeling is this is my house and I want to know how and when to take care of it. The best suggestion he made was to install a skylight in the garage and a sun tunnel in the darkest area of the house. In hindsight, I should have gotten these two items done years ago and now I cannot live without having free solar lighting. If you want a roofer who can explain everything to you when necessary then Sustainable Roofing Solutions is who you want for your next roofing job.

Tom has been our handyman for many years. His work is always carefully done and he doesn't fool around. Tom is honest about what he can do and careful about cost. If he doesn't have experience with something he finds out from experts and then does it well. He has fixed gutters for us, made a sewing table, painted, put sensors on garden lighting, the list goes on and on. We treasure him.

North Bay Roofing and Gutters were very, very professional. They have a contractor license and insurance. Of the 4 'professionals' that came out to estimate, they were the only one who were actually Licensed and Insured. Once they got the job, they were prompt in scheduling and when they did the work they actually cleaned up after themselves. For my money I decided I wanted someone with a real license and real insurance. Also, I decided that we wanted someone who not only does gutters, but also does roofing. Because , eventually we will need a new roof and I would at that point have a roofer that I have a relationship with. (Just try and call a roofer and get them to call you back.) They fit the bill. Lastly, their product was a galvanized painted product, versus an aluminum product. The galvanized is a stronger product and will probably last longer and stand up to abuse that the aluminum version. I would heartily recommend this company.

Kevin was prompt and ready to work! He provided a quote site unseen and didn't even blink when it was more than either of us had envisioned. He power washed 3 large decks, all the patio furniture, spa cover and all the walkways (twice!) to get them clean. What we thought was pollen was actually paint overspray. He even went further and worked to get the spa cover cleaned of tree sap. It was GREAT to have someone willing to get it done right the first time without question. I will DEFINITELY be calling him for more handyman duties coming up!! If you want it done right, call KEVIN!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why is it important to clean your gutters?

Rain gutters, those easily-forgotten trenches that hang off the edge of your roof, protect your roof, walls and foundation from excess rainwater. When they get clogged with leaves, sticks and other wind-blown debris, they can no longer direct water away from your walls and foundation, and may become homes for pests and insects. They also become heavy enough to pull away from the house, preventing proper rainwater drainage and spoiling the appearance of your home. Experts recommend inspecting and cleaning your gutters twice a year, once in spring and once in fall, as part of your regular landscaping schedule. Gutter cleaning and maintenance is a fairly easy DIY job for some homeowners, especially on one-story homes. However, professional gutter cleaners have ladders tall enough to safely reach rain gutters, as well as the necessary tools to clean out the downspouts. Most gutter cleaning professionals can also make any necessary quick repairs.

How much does it cost to have gutters cleaned?

Professional gutter cleaning and maintenance should be done once or twice a year to remove debris and check for damage to the roof and gutter. The national average cost for rain gutter cleaners ranges from $100 to $130. A number of factors affect the costs, including the combined length of the gutters, the size of the house, the location of the gutters, and any risks posed to the professional cleaner. Some companies based their cost estimates on the linear square footage of the gutters; for example, 200 linear square feet of gutters on a standard, single-story ranch-style home costs an average of $125 to clean. The cost goes up for second- and third-story gutters and those in hard-to-reach places, like a roof with an unusually steep pitch. Expect to pay at least $100 more than standard prices if cleaning your home’s gutters requires extra safety precautions. Because spring and fall are gutter cleaners’ busiest seasons, some gutter cleaning and maintenance companies offer discounts during summer and winter months.

How often do you need to clean your gutters?

Gutter cleaning and maintenance is an important part of keeping up a home. Not only are clogged gutters unsightly, they can also lead to water damage in the house’s walls and roof. The best way to prevent that is to clean your gutters at least twice a year — experts recommend making it part of your spring cleaning and fall landscaping schedules. In the fall, trees lose their leaves and, in the spring, release seedpods and flower petals, all of which tend to end up in rain gutters. It’s a good idea to also have a professional gutter cleaner clear out your downspouts, too; clogged downspouts can make gutters backup and overflow.
