- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I had always considered myself a writer, but I was working in advertising and corporate communications on the agency side. I was hiring freelance writers who couldn't meet our clients' needs, so I would rewrite their work to make the client happy. I decided to get out of account management and focus entirely on writing.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
As with any consultant, check at least two references and find out what services the writer provided. Did he or she provide communications strategy or simply take your direction? Did s/he write original copy or edit your rough draft? Did s/he meet your deadlines? How many drafts did it take to hit the mark? Was the project on budget? Did s/he work directly with a designer?
