We recently bought an older fixer upper and Jose has helped us with several jobs. He removed popcorn ceiling, texturized, put in new drywall and pot lights, did painting, installed floor tile, and is now tiling my new shower. He has a lot of overall construction experience and brings important knowledge to the job. His work has been quality and looks really nice. His pricing is very competitive and he is responsive and easy to work with. We had a few last minute delays on our end getting materials and he kindly rescheduled several times. We are going to work with him on some outside hardscape and fencing as well. We highly recommend Jose and his team. (I will add some photos soon)

David did a great job installing my new master bath vanity & tile backsplash. He re-did a plumbing issue & never made anything seem impossible. I live in an older mobile home & they are not constructed as traditional homes so David improvised on the tile backsplash confidently. He made decor suggestions that turned out great. I’m very happy with the results. Thanks again David! Before & After

Sean is amazing! He's upfront and honest, friendly and motivated. I am a pretty particular person in expectations and Sean meets and exceeds them every time. He is thorough and thoughtful in his work and fair in his pricing. I feel lucky to have found Sean to help me get my new little house just the way I want it- I only hesitate to write this review for fear he becomes even busier! So far Sean has completed tasks requiring expertise in tile (bathroom and front porch), plumbing (toilet and bathroom sink), he's matched a specific baseboard and installed it, he fixed my rusted outlet, and we are in progress of planning a kitchen refacing to include the installation of a range hood fan, dishwasher, new countertops and backsplash, and updating our cabinets. He's easy to talk to and understand- he's quick and reliable. You can tell he takes pride in his work. I don't know how you find better.

Robert sent over his guys, Patrick and Chris, for our kitchen demo and we thought they were awesome. They were on time, polite, very neat, and even honored our request of preserving a couple of pieces of our old granite as well as our tile floors which we plan to keep. It was a pleasure working with them and based on our experience, we would recommend them very highly.

Dennis is great! I hired him to install some tile in our kitchen where a previous homeowner had removed the backsplash to put in a window, but never finished the job. He was quick to respond, gave a reasonable quote, gave me some suggestions about where to look for tile to match the rest of the kitchen, and even tried to find the tile himself. Once I found/ordered the tile, he made himself available on a Saturday to install it. He showed up on time, did an excellent job, finished in just a few hours, and cleaned up afterward. I hope to use him again when we remodel our bathroom.

Jim has done so much work at my house! He replaced my brick fireplace with stacked stone and a custom made mantle. It looks amazing. Then he put crown moulding up, even on the kitchen cabinets. He modified the kitchen cabinets so they could hold glass inserts, installed a wine fridge, backsplash, and custom wood counter. All of his work was perfect! I can't wait to get him back to remodel my guest bathroom. I saw one he did and it looks like it's right out of a magazine.

Rick Rios installed about 100 sq ft of hardwood flooring so as to match up with existing hardwood. Very happy with results. Rios' subcontractor who did tile work at the same time also did excellent work.

Remodeled my mom's kitchen after a water leak disaster. Fast, friendly, efficient, prompt service. Great end product. Demo'd old cabinets, drywall, insulation, flooring, subfloor, plumbing, did mold abatement, then replaced all. Also installed beautiful new tile backsplash. Looks great!

I would highly recommend Pedro. I hired him to install a new backsplash (and remove/demo the existing) and re-frame the kitchen window. He was even able to save some of the granite strip for the window sill. He also came back on a Saturday to do some final touch-ups. I have attached some photos so you can see the quality of his work. He also charges a very reasonable rate. I would not hesitate to hire Pedro again (and probably will)!

We redid our master bath and flooring in the entry way and kitchen/dining room. In the bath we removed a tub and extended the shower. In the entry way and kitchen/dining room the existing tile was removed and new flooring installed. Anselmo and his team were very professional and completed the job in a timely manner. Everything turned out beautifully and we love it!

Having experience with tile and stone, I knew I needed a professional for my project. I interviewed a few tile and stone installers, and I was waiting for someone to talk to me about past experience with glass and stone. Our fireplace is the centerpiece of the entertainment area, and I wanted to make sure it was done right. After seeing Tony work, I know there is no project he cannot handle. This was a very tricky install, in that we were working with very small glass tiles that came on paper backing, and not mesch. You need to be able to wet the tile before you cut it, and keep it on the wet paper at the same time keeping the pattern with no compromise. This can only be done by a detailed veteran with a lot of experience. Tony showed a lot of attention to detail, and we have had nothing but compliments from friends and guests about how nice the fireplace looks. We wanted it to stand out, and we were beyond pleased with his work. The best thing I can say is, we will have him back to do another project in the near future. Thanks Tony, Tile and Stone Workz is a class act.

Brian and his son did a great job with the tile for my fireplace project. They were able to come out and give me a bid for the project right away and had very competitive, reasonable pricing. They did a very professional, clean, timely job. They had a great eye for how to lay the tile out and it looks great! Nothing but good things to say about Brian Pierce and I would highly recommend him for any tile work you need done.

Nick replaced our master bath tile/shower surround including demo of old surround, raising shower head, replacing fixtures, adding new cement board, and adding new tile surround. We selected a classic white tile with glass inlay since that bathroom is fairly small and it would've been too much to have big tiles all the way to the ceiling. He was very easy to work with, very fair in his estimate, very clean and neat, cleaned up his mess at the end of each workday so we could still use our room, was great at brainstorming with me and flexible to adjust our design as we adjusted some minor things along the way, finished on time, and was very respectful to our family and our time as he worked in our home. I look forward to having Nick help us with other projects in the future. I highly recommend you give him a chance – – I think you will be happy you did.

Tyrone with Snosrap Enterprises installed the flooring, countertops, and backsplash in my kitchen - and I could not be happier! I am quite a perfectionist when it comes to my home, and even from the window ledge to the wall of the backsplash, the tile lines match perfectly from corner to corner. He told me quality was their number one, and they delivered. It is hard to find contractors who pay more attention to quality than a quick buck nowadays.

I have 40 years of construction experience. Primarily a carpenter, I have developed a few properties and have extensive experience with all trades. I demand quality work and materials. In April, '11, ABOUT FLOORS installed all new flooring (carpet and vinyl) in my house in San Marcos. I have seen other of their work (harwood, tile, etc.) and I eagerly recommend this company to homeowners and general contractors. Their prices are very competitive, their work is beyond reproach, performed in a timely manner and they go "above and beyond." These guys are some of the best and most courteous of any I've ever worked with and I feel fortunate to have had them on this job. ABOUT FLOORS is about excellence. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
