Alan Cross is trained classically and in jazz. He has studied and played for 26 years including a focus on music at Concordia University. Alan has played as a pianist in jazz combos, as a choir accompanist, as a keyboardist in several pop bands, and has worked as a music director.
As an experienced piano teacher, Alan has helped many students develop solid musical foundations, expanded creative abilities, and a deep-rooted love for music. Alan has had great success with both children and adults. He has recitals for both children and adults and can help both classical and jazz minded ambitions.
Lessons are taught out of Alan's home in Saratoga, CA, and online via Skype or FaceTime and other helpful programs. His rates are $44half hour, $68/forty-five minutes, and $88/hour.

He is a great teacher. My daughter is always on her own pace. But, he is patient. He is waiting for her and he helps her when she needs it. I’m so lucky to find a great teacher for my daughter.

Alan Cross is great teacher. He assessed the level my son was in very well and customized his teaching accordingly. The pace at which lessons are taught are appropriate for my son. Mr. Cross takes practicing at home pretty seriously, which is a plus for our family.

Alan is an amazing teacher! He focuses on honing the kid's skills/techniques, provides individual attention and is very patient (an important skill to teach kids)! Alan started teaching my daughter piano when the pandemic struck. We were not sure how much she'd learn by starting online. We were lucky to have a friend refer Alan to us.
My daughter loves playing the piano and has decided to become a musician :). Alan pays attention to the keys and teaches her the right techniques. There are times when she misses the notes and Alan always comes back with a positive "Let's try it again!".
Apart from being a great teacher, Alan takes the time to communicate her progress periodically and educates us about piano. We highly recommend Alan!

Alan is our family piano instructor. My older son, 12, younger son, 8, and myself, 50 something, have been taking lessons from Alan for over 3 years. He is disciplined in his approach; no short cuts or progressing a student just for the sake of appeasing a parents desire to get from level 1 to 10. He allows us to suggest and play music we like as well as well as work on theory, which has helped everyone. My older son accelerated in jr orchestra (mariba). We are learning and playing both classical music, blues, and jazz. Just cool.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer half hour, forty five minute and one hour lessons. Half hour lessons are $44 forty five minute lessons are $68 and hour lessons are $88.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Generally I first try to figure what the student's interests and goals are. Much of this happens through Thumbtack but also may continue once we meet in person. I also will provide curriculum on your first lesson, sometimes the second, which includes custom scale and chord worksheets, jumping into books and finding appropriate exercises when helpful.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied music, taking private lessons and music theory and ensemble classes at Concordia University. My focus was on Jazz and Classical. I was a leader in the Concordia Jazz Combo as well as in the Sunday Service Worship Ensemble.
