I had a meet & greet with Sonia yesterday; she brought her "pack" of dogs to meet my dog, who is sometimes aggressive toward other dogs. Sonia really seems to know her stuff, and gave me great advice on dealing with my dog!! And he behaved pretty well around all her dogs, thanks to her coaching! I was impressed!

We got a rescue puppy. While adorable, she's got many of the behavior issues rescue dogs may come with, especially destructive anxiety. I've trained dogs before, and this dog has made me run out of ideas. Amy has consulted with me many times on ways to reduce her anxiety and help her with everything from getting the hang of potty training to not nipping at the kids. She has always tried her hardest and done her best. All with positive reinforcement methods too! She's taken on tough cases and doesn't give up. She's great at coaching owners too so we can genuinely help the dog. If you're not working with Amy, you don't have the best - yet! Give her a hollar!

Dear Pet Owner, It is with extreme pleasure that I write this letter of reference for Laura Tait of Laura’s Pet Services. I met Laura at a local dog park several years ago and since then she has cared for Milo (my Chihuahua/Terrier mix) many times. Laura is extremely responsible, dependable, and trustworthy. She has a true love of animals and is able to relate to each one on an individual basis. She is wonderfully patient and always loving towards Milo, who quickly became very comfortable around her. I feel she truly cares about animals and is genuinely concerned about their well-being. She has always listened intently to my instructions and is always willing to work with me to meet all of Milo’s needs. In addition to all the basic requirements, I completely trust her to administer medication and follow through with any special pet needs. When it comes to Milo’s health and well-being, I have complete confidence in her knowledge and judgment. Laura is an excellent communicator. She always does a great job of keeping me informed about how Milo is feeling and behaving. When I call, she often tells me about little, special moments in Milo’s day. She is very accommodating with changes in schedule, and I am always amazed at how quickly she returns my phone calls. She is very flexible and has never had to cancel on me. The longest time Laura cared for Milo was for 3 weeks this past June-July. The peace of mind we enjoy on our vacations knowing that Milo is being so lovingly cared for is invaluable. We are able to relax and enjoy the vacations we can’t take Milo on knowing he is in the best hands. The happiness and contentment I see in Milo when we return is priceless. There is no one I would trust with any pet of mine more than Laura. She is a model caregiver, who truly cares for the welfare of all pets. Milo and I are happy to recommend Laura without qualification. I am confident that any pet owner would be fully satisfied with her services. Please feel free to call me if you would like a verbal confirmation of this letter. Dawn San Jose

We've had Gina house-sit and stay with our precious Shih Tzus for years. She is absolutely dedicated to loving and caring for animals. She is experienced in giving medications, when necessary and our girls love her. I never worry about a thing when we travel. We've been gone as long as two weeks, and Gina is professional in every way. I highly recommend Gina for pet-sitting, dog walking, or any job related to your precious pets.

Thank you Selina. My bishon poodle had surgery last year and gained a good amount of weight. It is hard to find the time to take my dog for walking, but Selina has helped my Fifi exercise at least 3 times a week and has been very patient with her. Keep up the great work!

I love animals & enjoy taking care of them! I also clean houses on my free time. I take pride in what I do & enjoy seeing the satisfaction on my clients faces! Being around animals all the time is one of the biggest joys of my life!!

I am a professional dog walker with over 30 years of experience. I've owned over 10 dogs during my lifetime and have gained great experience on walking, training and caring for them. I have super accessible rates for the busy executives that want to make sure their babies will be in safe, trustworthy and knowledgeable hands and not some inexperienced kid that would probably let go of the leash in a moment of panic or distraction.

I have a deep connection with dogs that no one else has, I can tell when they are hurt, happy, anxious, nervous etc. What I like most about what I do is I make a difference in the dogs life as well as its owner.

I like animals, especially dogs. I also have worked with dogs before in a training program. I helped dog named Bobby with uneven-sized legs get trained and later, adopted. I am a certified junior dog trainer.

I am a freelance cosmetologist who loves animals, and I figured that a fun side job would be to walk doggies!

Ever since I was younger, I would watch my neighbors' animals while they went on vacation or take their dogs for a walk every morning. I greatly enjoying helping in every way possible.

I'm good with animals. They like me. I love walking around with dogs and I don't care about getting my hands dirty, if you know what I mean.

Hi, there! I am a stay-at-home mom (to a baby and a two-year old dog) with over 12 years of dog-caring experience. I offer dog walking and sitting at very competitive rates. Are you worried about your dog at home while you are working long hours? My female havanese and I can help.

I am not a business. I do this because I like all dogs, and they need to be loving and have no bad behavior problem. I can train most all dogs! I can remove any wildlife. I have had most of all different animals.

I have two wonderful dogs at the moment (beagles), but I would like to earn some extra money besides the money I earn from doing chores. I am comfortable walking and taking care of all dogs, but I preferred those who are potty and/or crate trained. I am in high school, but I am a great caretaker. I love walking and playing with dogs, and I will even groom your dog! I love all kinds of dogs, so I will take care any kind. Contact me if you're interested. I have walked and taken cared of dogs around my neighborhood, so I have tons of practice.

I walk dogs for a healthy and happy doggy life. As with any dog walking, they will do their business. I carry doggy bags for their bowel movements.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
