Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I tend to get hired to paint animals quite often. My animals all have a spirit and an energy painted in them. I have many styles, am easy to work with (no prima dona here) don't mind adjusting an image and look for input from my client. I'll work on a payment plan and I'll involve the kids if that's what you'd like. I take pride in what I do. I'm not just slapping paint. Murals are an extra for me. I have a real job and only take the gigs I want to do. So, if I accept a gig from you you know you've got a artist who's interested in producing her best because she's engaged. My job is fun and addictive, I'm a natural creator and getting lost in a mural is an intense experience for a creator. You are truly creating an alternate reality when you're working on a big mural. It's kind of like walking into a dream.

FAQs

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

When my kids were younger, I had volunteered to paint a patriot mural. A couple of months ago vandals got onto the school grounds and graffittied the mural. Everyone was so upset. I went over that day, fixed the flag which was painted yellow, added the Statue of Liberty and fixed the Liberty Bell. By the time the kids got out of school, their mural was repainted and much better than it was before it was vandalized. The kids were so excited because they really liked the mural with the eagle and the flag and the USS Constitution. It meant something to them and they were so disheartened that somebody came over and trashed their school. It was a great feeling to take away the onus of the violation.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look at what they've done previously. Is the style what you want? Look at their paintings they've completed. Don't base everything on their layout. I spend very little time on a layout because I'm not getting paid for the layout. I do a quick rendition of what I'm thinking and know that it's a starting point and a conversation opener with my clients.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Artists are not all people with purple and green hair and safety clips piercing their nose with razor blades hanging from their ears. Most of us are articulate, intelligent people. But as in all professions, There's alot of artists who think they can do it all....they can't. If you're looking for a portrait artist, check out their portraits. If you're looking for a mural artist, make sue they've got the skills to transfer what's dawn on an 8.5 x 11" paper to an 8 foot wall AND if you're looking for a face painter, make sue you look at their party pics and not their studio picks. If you've got half an hour to paint a face, then every artist can do a good job but when you've got 20 kids clamoring for their turn, that 1/2 hour just tuned into 5 minutes and you have to KNOW how to tweak your brush and make a one stroke line AND you have to like kids! Otherwise, you've got yourself a grouchy face painter that's yelling at the kids. I love kids. I teach all week long. My youngest student is 3.5, my oldest art student is 92 (she's the more difficult of the two:) ) I'm a normal mom, Site Council and PTSA board member. I am larger than normal people who stand on a ladder, so don't be expecting some waif. I wear the proof I'm a good cook. I show up in work clothes, i.e., covered in paint, clothes that should have been trashed long ago and instead were put into work service. I'm a bit shy so I sometimes come off as snooty. I'm not. I'm just hiding a bit. But that's one of the reasons I'm a good artist. I learned to hide in my work when I was very young.
