Maria is an amazing cake designer of whom makes the best cakes. Due to mine and my children's food allergies I had pretty much given up on cake because from my experience with gluten and dairy allergies. Cake shops either don't do it or if they do its dry and a less desirable second to a moist yummy cake. Not with Maria's Pastries You get a great moist delicious designer cake that you couldn't tell is Gluten or Dairy free in any way!!

Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

Maria canceled on me out of nowhere 3 weeks before my wedding. This was after being in talks with her for more than 7 weeks on the details of the order AND after spending 4 hours of our Sunday driving an hour to her house in Temecula and an hour back from San Diego to do our cake tasting... And it wasn't just the time and energy that I put into making the terms of our agreement or even the stress that comes along with your 2-tiered wedding cake and 200 cupcake order being canceled on you with no merit 3 weeks before your wedding, it was truly the way that she acted and handled the situation, so selfishly and without any apology or remorse... To be honest, it was the rudest, most unprofessional business e-mail that I have ever received. She basically told me that she decided to take a new client's order for my wedding day so she could no longer fulfill my order. She offers you no contract or set-in-stone terms, and she basically jumps around on Thumbtack messaging to her advantage. In fact, she didn't even write down the flavors that we chose on the day of our tasting... One day, she suddenly decided to start hounding me about what flavors we chose that day saying she needed to know within 24 hours or it was going to be too late... Mind you, this was all done via Thumbtack.com messaging despite me asking her numerous times to please contact me on my personal e-mail since that is checked daily. Then after 18 hours, since I had not seen her messages or responded, her messages quickly turned threatening and she tried to change the prices that we had already agreed upon. The delivery charge was originally $50 then she hiked it up to $100 at the very end... She also added $100 charge to rent the cake stand at the very end and said "she forgot to mention it because we must have gotten so caught up at our tasting at her house". I had to continuously go back and screenshot things that she said in order to show her that our agreement was for this price and those circumstances yada yada since she would go back on her word so much. I would never even want to have to take legal action against anyone, however, the way that she treated me and the way that she handled the situation was just absolutely appalling, and without any remorse. All I want to do is to provide you with helpful feedback and let you know with all honesty what my experience was like with Maria. I would encourage you to go with someone who provides you with a formal contract with clearly stated terms and conditions that cannot be changed or altered along the way. This whole experience has been exhausting and heart-wrenching.

Dear Jackie, I’m sorry you feel that way, but I bent over backwards to please you. Each time you set up an appointment to put down your deposit you never showed up I only cancel after 5 attempts to get you to sign a detailed order form and put down your deposit, it was you that failed then blamed me. I warned you that if you failed to bring me the deposit by a certain date I was going to cancel and take on another wedding. Sincerely Maria Pastries

If you are looking to hire a person do not hire Maria. I unfortunately had to cancel my wedding cake two months prior to my wedding and she says she spent $340 of my $500 deposit on gold paint and flower topper. The crazy part is I told her that my color scheme was blue white and silver. The cake picture that I gave her had gold on it but we had agreed closer to the wedding date I would get her color swatches. Now she is refusing to refund me in full saying deposits with her are non refundable 30 days after deposit which she never mentioned. The icing on this cake she is refusing to return even the $160 she says is due back to me without me going to her attorneys office. I ended up having to cancel ten other vendors in May for a July wedding Maria takes the cake for the worst!!

Dear Inoka When you first contacted me to tell me what your fiancé had done to you I was so sorry for your pain. I had told you I would go over my expenses for your cake and get back to you. When I finally got back to you with numbers you said you wanted the receipts and supplies as well as the money and I agreed to give it to you, the only reason I asked you to pick up everything at my Attorney's office was that you were becoming more and more argumentative and I didn't want a confrontation with you so my attorney suggested that I bring everything to his office that way it would be a peaceful exchange. As for me ordering supplies in March for your cake, in order to ensure that I get the supplies in time, I always try to order everything I need especially custom items as far head as I can. Anybody that makes cakes knows that some times items will be out of stock and could take up to 2-3 months before you get them. The molds I needed took 45 days to come in,I try to pick up everything I need and store it for your cake so when it's time to make your cake I have everything on hand. As for the colors please go back to your thumbtack page not even in there did you ever say your colors were silver. I kept all of our emails and notes you never one time said silver. Your fiancé was suppose to drop off swatch in the blue so I could match it to your flowers and he never did, I emailed you to remind you and you said you were too busy with other wedding things and you would get back to me. Also if you would have brought me the swatches at that time we would of went over all the colors again so if there was any mistakes I would have had plenty of time to correct it. I know it isn't a coincidence that you only remember what you want but I told you and your fiancé that the deposit was not refundable after 30 days and your fiancé even said that he understood that his mother use to make cakes. Your fiancé even asked if he could take some cake and fillings home from your cake tasting to his mother because he really like what you both had chosen so I packed a to go package for him. By me giving you supplies and refunding you the balance is like saying that my time and energy is worth nothing. I have tried my best to please you, so please don't take your anger out on me.
