FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My hourly rate takes into account the cost of the lesson plus gas costs and travel time to-and-from your home. If you come to my studio in Sherman Oaks, the hourly rate will be less.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We'll assess where you are musically, discuss what you want to work on, and then I'll tailor the teaching to get you there. We'll decide on songs that will help improve your skill-building, whether on bass or guitar. I want you to excel and be a better player. I want you to improve your ear, and understand how music works. If you want to work on songwriting and vocals with the guitar, that's even better! I have years of instructional design that covers everything from simple scale charts to complicated interval theory. You'll always have handouts to support the learning.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a professional trainer in businesses, where I created company-wide training programs to teach people how to use hardware, software, phone systems, how to communicate with clients, etc. I'm also a lifelong musician with live performances in the US and Europe. I combined the two areas of expertise in 2012, creating adult music theory classes for guitarists through Meetup.com. I taught weekly classes on a range of topics, comprising 60 courses. At its peak, my group had over 100 students. (My father was a law professor; my mother was an elementary school teacher and an ESL teacher. It runs in the family.)
