Adrian repaired our balcony that had dry rot. This was not an easy job replacing joists and lifting the whole balcony so water can drain off when it rains. He also laid ceramic tile on our 17 X 10 balcony. He and Mark did and excellent job. Very thorough with attention to the smallest detail. Very polite and overall nice guys. We will use Adrian again when we have the need.

Working with Nathan was a good experience from start to finish. We enjoyed his presence as well, he is enjoyable to have around. Mostly he was professional, reasonable, concerned about our wants and needs, from start to finish he was very clean and precise, and what I liked the most was that I only had to deal with one person from start to finish. We didn't have to hire different contractors to get the job done. He did everything from demolition, framing, plumbing, waterproofing, and tile installation. He also went out of his way to spend the day with us to help us choose the materials that we wanted in order to make our dream bathroom what it is now. He really does have an eye for designing custom work. We are truly pleased with Nathan and would recommend him to anyone that wants a great experience and beautiful work. Thank you Nathan.

We had a small bathroom renovation planned. We requested 2 bids from contractors in the Thumbtack network: Top Knotch and another contractor. Both contractors bid very competitively. (We’d had prior bids from other contractors – not from Thumbtack - at 3 to 5 times the price.) Though Top Knotch was not the lowest bidder of the 2 Thumbtack contractors, we selected this company because they had a variety of skillsets that other contractor did not. In addition to the tile work, they moved a bathroom light, installed an exhaust fan, installed a medicine cabinet, repaired some drywall, could remove and replace the toilet, etc. We have a 1930’s home with hanky wiring and unsquared walls and unleveled floors. Mike was meticulous in his work and was able to overcome the unique challenges of this home. The mosaic rock backsplash (floor to ceiling) and the porcelain wood-look floor tile is beautiful. Mike and his assistant were always on time and worked a full day, every day until the project was completed. We were impressed that in this day of technology and constantly being “plugged in” to the world by cell phone, he didn’t drop everything to answer the phone every time it rang. His time in our home was spent on our project. Mike is very professional and meticulous in his work product. We’d use this company again and have plans to use him for our upcoming kitchen remodel. We’d definitely recommend him to anyone looking for quality work at a reasonable price. Rodney R.

My husband and I needed a company to expand our driveway and adjust/repair sprinklers so we have full coverage because the lawn was dying. I got plenty of bids on this job. DG construction was very reasonable with their prices. David promised me they would start at 7 am the following day. Sure enough right on time the crew arrived at my home. They worked 12 hours straight to get the job done in two days. David went above and beyond to repair this tile that broke from my home and replaced the cylicone around my kitchen sink to prevent leaks. I didn't even ask for his help but he did anyways. This company is very trustworthy and honest. The job was done in a timely manner for the price agreed upon. I am definitely keeping their contact information for any future contractor needs. I highly recommend this company.

B&B Floor Tile demoed the existing tile and disposed of it. They put in a porcelain wood tile and did a beautiful job. Victor was very helpful about which grout to use was very familiar with the tile itself. His crew was amazing and completed the job in a day and a half.

Florin did an excellent job installing the marble for a specialized walk in bath surround and fixing the drywall from the demolition of our previous bath/shower. Florin also worked well with our plumber to get the job done correctly. The marble looks beautiful, I recommend BCD Construction wholeheartedly to install anyone's marble or tile!

Caleb was great. Came out to see the job the same day I called him. We were in a bit of a time crunch for this project and he was able to accommodate our schedule. We hired him on the spot to remove a bunch of tile and thinset. Job was finished in a timely manner and I was able to start laying the new flooring next day thanks to his attention to detail during floor prep. Highly recommend his services!! Thanks Caleb -The Wrights

James Kirkey installed new hardwood floors and new ceramic tile throughout the first floor of our house in Chino Hills during the summer of 2009, and we have been delighted with the result. They helped us choose the right materials, ordered the hardwood flooring, and did a careful, professional job of installation. Their prices were reasonable and competitive, and their service was excellent. They were recommended by a friend, who also had a very positive experience. We would use them again, without any hesitation, and recommend them to anyone who is in the market for new flooring. Jim & Diane Case

Brandon and his team exceeded expectations. BRC installed over 600 sq feet of wood-like porcelain plank tile. The installation went smoothly and the results are great! The team was always on time and kept the work area clean throughout the install. I will refer BRC to my friends and I plan to use them in the near future for a kitchen backsplash. Jason-Temecula

David first came and did the painting for my in-laws home. He did the entire home (about 1000 sq ft) in a day. Him and his helper were super neat and cleaned up after, it was as if they had not ever been there except for perfectly painted walls. Then, came the hard part. He put down tile throughout the house. Should have been a simple job but it was not. First, we had a floor heater that had been removed, had the previous contractor fix the hole but the floor would sag in that area. David built it up from the ground up so it is even and you would never know that there had been this floor heater before. 2nd, we discovered mold where the previous contractor had laid the backer board on there. David and his helper took out the molded pieces of wood, cleaned everything up and rebuild the section of flooring. 3rd We found that the floors had started sagging in the kitchen - so before laying the tile, David had to work around the cabinets, but somehow he was able to put spacers to make the floor even so in the future the tile will lay just as flat as it does today. Now the kitchen is beautiful and safe which is super important for the parents and gives us peace of mind. David has a very strong work ethic. He shows up when he says he will and he does a beautiful job. This house looks polished and brand new with the paint job and the new tile. My in-laws LOVED it and are super happy!! Thank you David! I would and will recommend Esquivel and Son to anyone that asks for someone that is reliable, trustworthy, reasonably priced and does excellent work.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

        • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
          • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
        • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
        • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
