I absolutely loved these guys. They showed up EARLY! Not TOO early but about five to ten minutes ahead of schedule, which I appreciate because when the clock started, they were ready to go. I was disappointed to read some of the other reviews about them changing their cost or having had a theft concern. I don't believe that at all. They came in at the end just very slightly above the quote, but only 45 dollars, and that was my fault because I had them driving east on the 10 from Venice to Hollywood and Highland during rush hour. It was completely understandable. My only regret was not having extra cash in my pocket for their tip. Also, worthy of mention, I had a hard time describing how much they'd be moving because it was a storage unit full of lots of poorly packed crap; some of the pieces were really big and I had forgotten what was in there. I think when we opened the unit it was WAAAAAY more than they had planned on. When they saw it, they looked a bit shocked (even I was) but they never said a world, never complained and made no effort to raise the price. Instead they got right to work and it was A LOT of work. They flew through it. They were really strong and fast but also totally careful and didn't so much as break even one dish regardless of my lousy and careless packing job. I was so impressed with their efficiency. They had plenty of blankets and padding and knew exactly how to safely pack their truck. In another review someone said their truck was small. It was not small at all. It seemed like a pretty big truck to me frankly; and definitely bigger than I expected. They didn't even stop to take a breath at any time during the move, either loading or unloading. As far as their honesty regarding theft..? NO WAY. I didn't feel concerned about my belongings at all. These guys are all about getting the job done. They don't steal. They were full-disclosure and offered me the opportunity to look inside their truck before they left. I didn't even do it because I knew I didn't need to. Subsequently, not one thing is missing. Frank and his assistant are all business and the consummate professionals. I will use them again in the future and I would highly recommend them to any friend or anyone looking for a mover. If you want safe, efficient, honest, hardworking and capable movers for a price that is almost too inexpensive (as I thought they deserved more and wish I'd had it on me), do yourself a favor and hire Frank and his team. You won't be sorry. Thank you Frank and co. for making a day I was dreading into a seamless and positive experience. You guys are the best! Until next time, Jess

We had a long move from Los Angeles to San Diego, and we were looking for a reasonably priced, no hassle movers. It was a good call for us to hire Mike & Shaw, and the company made it an easy and pain free experience. The guys were professional, efficient, courteous, and were willing to help out in anyway they could. Great communication throughout the whole process, from the initial thumbtack inquiry to the very end of the move. Would highly recommend.

Joshua should consider changing the name of his company to…”Angel Movers” Moving is one of the most difficult things I had ever experience the whole process is a nightmare mentally fiscally and emotionally overwhelming but Joshua and his crew made it happen in a way I will never forget. Thank YOU I have to say that I lived in the City of Angels for 24 years…ironically on my last day in this city/country I ran into my first Angels 5 Stars is not enough to even try to give a fair review…I will try to be short in a review that I could actually write a book about On may 31-2016 We had a confirmed schedule of a shipping container to go overseas, for the last month I had store my house and my husband’s office in a container in a city of Lancaster, so I hired Joshua to do the transfer of the 40 foot storage container to the 40 foot shipping container at 12 noon, everything was logistically schedule to leave the country next day a 3am… Ohhh well when everything can go wrong it will go wrong…by the time we arrive in Lancaster we got the news that the container will be arriving at 3 PM…so already we are running against the clock with a moving company waiting….Joshua was kind enough to re- schedule last minute at 3pm without any charge…OK….3 pm came… container is no show…we have to be in LAX in few hrs and my whole life is sitting in a container in the middle of nowhere….I was breaking down, stress on high alert I felt that my mouth twitching …I had to call back Joshua to give him the news …no container till 7pm…at this point Im crying…planning on cancel flights and booking a hotel for my family…what Joshua said next was just an Angel taking to my ears… “Are you OK?” do you have a place to wait around? It is 100 F out there… I broke down and cry of gratitude on the phone, and he just simply say …If you guys need a place please come to my house…everything is going to be OK So we did, my husband and I drove to his place… He welcome us like we were family, reconfirmed us that no matter what everything will be Ok and that his crew will be ready to do the move no matter what 7:30 pm. We got the call…container is finally on location. Joshua and his crew came…it was already dark…we used the high car beams to light the storage and 3hrs later the move was done…Joshua and his professional crew made the impossible done in the worst imaginable conditions…in those hrs waiting for the container and through the move I got my faith back on God and good people…people who do good simply because is the right thing to do. By 11pm we were out of Lancaster with all our lives in a container in a way to the port…All this was just possible thanks to Joshua and his awesome crew. We were just on time to pick up our bags and head over to LAX…. We made it!!!!!!! Im forever thankful THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greek Movers went well above and beyond my expectations. We needed a single, very large, extremely fragile, item moved about 50 miles. Their communication was phenomenal and they were both very friendly and professional. They do not have a truck but were able to secure one for an additional fee so keep that in mind when booking. For additional labor needs on any moving project, I would highly recommend Odd Job Industries: Greek Movers for your move.

I had a great experience with Wemove from beginning to end. When I reached out to them, they responded promptly and were very accommodating, despite pretty strict rules from my buildings. Great customer service from Eddie! They were also available on relatively short notice and had very competitive prices. On the day of the move, the movers communicated with me frequently, were perfectly on time, and moved everything in an efficient manner. Mike, Nick, and Alex were all fast and adaptable- I moved from a building with a tiny elevator to a 4th-floor walk-up, and they were great. They finished my move (2BR apartment) in under 5 hours. Low prices, great services, and reliable movers- highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
