    Courtney Bowles Voice Studio

    (6 reviews)

I focus on teaching healthy singing for all ages. My students learn songs in all styles and genres of music. I like exposing them to all different kinds of music from Broadway and Classical to Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. Every 4 months or so each student receives a CD with all of their songs (either 6 or 7) on it including the melody line and accompaniment. This CD is great for practicing their music, auditioning for shows, and for performing for their families. I love watching my students learn and grow in confidence- not only in their singing abilities but also in themselves. It is great to see them master the vocal techniques we work on together.

  • Melodious Moments Music

Lesson plans are designed to fit individual needs for challenge, growth, progress, heightening confidence and skill levels at the student's comfortable pace. I pay attention to what students want and deliver the goods. I also lead in presenting options of skills that are important. Lessons are fun, safe, and relaxed. Being engaged in the creation of good music, musicians, and singers is the most rewarding I can think of doing. I enjoy seeing my students grow as independent practitioners of musical and performing arts.

  • DCPiano & Music

    (9 reviews)

My lessons are tailored to each individual student. I do not use a particular method. Because I am able to play and teach jazz, classical, blues, pop, showtunes, and other type of music, I am able to let the student collaborate with me on what they are most interested in. Collaboration. Building relationships. Watching people grow musically. Watching people's confidence shoot through the roof.

  • Piano, Voice and Music for All

    (9 reviews)

Music is my passion! I work with students of all ages; from my studio or I will come to your home if our schedules fit. I teach piano and I am a vocal coach for anyone from beginning to intermediate levels. Nobody is too old to be a student. You will have an enormous amount of fun by beginning to learn various songs on the piano via pattern identification. We will concentrate on artistry and technique, and eventually, I will introduce sight reading and theory. These two things are much easier to learn when I introduce you to my pattern identification method of learning. I teach all different styles from Classical to Jazz, Blues and Pop. My background includes several decades of piano playing with my mother standing by (she was a piano teacher who was educated at Yale Music school, so I couldn't get away with too many mistakes). I studied violin for 18 years (starting at the age of 3 with Mary Hiraoka Primrose, who married William Primrose the famous violist). I've been a professional singer for more than 20 years, and performed at numerous venues in the U.S. and China. I have extensive experience in music. Currently, I am singing with the Glide Ensemble in San Francisco, directed by John Turk (formerly of Sly and the Family Stone). During this time, I have had the honor of performing for Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama, Diane Feinstein, Gavin Newsom, Ed Lee and various others in the bay area. I have had the pleasure of performing with Ashford and Simpson, Pete Escovedo, Sheila E., and Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers. I was one of the 30 people chosen to sing with the Ensemble at the 2010 Expo in Shanghai. I've performed with my choir doing backups for Stevie Wonder. While on the East Coast, I performed as lead vocalist in a band called The Mansfield Hollow Promises, with our lead guitarist Peter Tork (of the Monkees). I've traveled with and was manager for several different bands and performers in New York City and the New England area, with The Mercy Seat (lead guitarist Gordon Gano from the band The Violent Femmes) and with Ellen McIlwaine (guitarist/singer in U.S. and Canada).

I have been taking lessons with Larisa for one year now, and I am incredibly satisfied with the quality and care that goes into my lessons! I have seen Lasira work with students ranging from very small children to returning adults like myself, and I have seen and experienced the great progress that she is able to glean from her students. I highly recommend Larisa if you are looking for an affordable, flexible, respectful, and dedicated teacher for yourself or your child.
