Stephanie was my makeup artist for my wedding in July. When I first met Stephanie I couldn't believe how kind, beautiful, accommodating, and incredibly generous she was. She was so quick to respond to any questions I may have had leading up to my wedding. Her passion for what she does really shines through. She's excellent and very confident in a variety of different looks. On my wedding day I had an endless amount of compliments on my makeup! I was honored to have Stephanie as my makeup artist!

I found Kelli on Thumbtack when searching for a makeup artist for my wedding. After our first makeup trial she had suggested a schedule leading up to my wedding with a series of chemical peels and dermaplaneing so my face was in tip top shape for my big day. I'm so happy I did!! Knowing my skin was on a routine to lead up to my big day was a huge stress relief. On my wedding day Not only my makeup but my whole bridal party's makeup was fabulous. Thank you a million Kelli💕💗💕

Lata Prabhu, InVogue Events was the wedding designer for my wedding ceremony at Hindu Temple, Centennial. The mandap looked very elegant, fresh and traditional. She managed everything seamlessly and hence we didn't have to intervene much ourselves. She is a very good planner and executes all of it in time and perfection. We are very happy with her work. Also, Lata provided me with a very good makeup artist named Desirae for my wedding reception at Stonebrook, Thornton. As I was living in LA and could not personally meet Lata, we discussed over email about my attire, my preferred look and then based on my pictures she suggested the kind of makeup I should go for and I was totally happy with her idea as it was exactly what I was looking for! She did a great job and we all are very happy and satisfied. So I would highly recommend her services to everyone who is looking for a great wedding planner! :) Regards, Mishka

Bridgette was an outstand makeup artist, friendly personable and professional. She made me look fantastic for my trial run and for my WEDDING! She even waxed my eye brows for me, she was wonderful. On the line of improvement, she was a little late showing up for my big day, but the show went on and all was well. I definitely would hire her again!! Thanks for everything Bridgette!

Colleen was our makeup artist on my wedding day for myself and 2 of my bridesmaids, on 11/15/14. Everyone looked amazing, and I was so happy with how I looked. I did a very vague job of telling Colleen what I wanted, because I didn't really know myself, but she was able to create a beautiful and perfect look that I absolutely loved and felt incredible with. Most importantly, my makeup wasn't caked on, which I have had experiences with before and was somewhat afraid would happen. Besides being very talented and knowledgeable, she is also a very sweet women. She helped two of my bridesmaids put on their own fake eyelashes last minute, and managed to help my husband cover up a last minute face related injury. I would 100% recommend to Colleen to anyone in need of a makeup artist.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
