Introduction: We specialize in ADUs. Small Houses in your backyard. That is all we do. We have been ADU advocates and are writing a book on them. Our ADUs, however, are not cookie cutter apartment replays. We do ADUs one by one by one, for each site and each owner. We do ADUs that make you want to live in them.

I remember knowing that my home didn't work well. We never used the formal dining room and the formal living room. My kitchen was dark and uninviting. And something else was broken besides identifying nonfunctional spaces. I had a sense, from being in ml's home and other beautiful spaces, that my home was not alive. Our remodel was almost 10 years ago and I can still remember the impact of ml's unique design process. I remember that we did not discuss creating new structures or which walls to move. Instead we talked about our ideas on how we would use the space, what was missing now and how we wanted to feel in the spaces we called our kitchen, dining and living rooms. Through ml's guided design process, I gained clarity and confidence that I knew what I wanted in the spaces we were redesigning. ml created a design that reflected what we wanted. Another aspect of ml's design approach that I appreciated was her capacity to continually advocate for what we really wanted. There were many times when the easiest decision seemed to be the fastest or least expensive one. With ml as our advocate we were able to find ways to continue to move towards what we really wanted. When the remodel was complete, our new spaces were more functional, more useful, and more beautiful. I also realized that ml's design resulted in new spaces that feel tightly aligned with the forces of nature. For example the new spaces are more filled with sunlight and shadows that reflect the time of day. The mountain views are more present and even air flows more freely through our home. I know that I feel more alive in these new spaces. I know that every moment is precious. I am grateful to live in a home with inspired spaces. I am eternally grateful to ml.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our fees have been slashed in order to work for the middle income homeowner who is looking to make a small house in their backyard. Additionally we are setting up to work with a factory that makes wall panels in order to cut time and efficiency in the construction of your ADU.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We begin with a Feasibility Report that looks at all the regulations in place that will impact your project so that you can see what is possible. We also provide a cost budget schedule to give you initial information on how much it might cost based on both sf cost per surveys and local costs. Once you have this information and you decide to proceed, we provide you with a fixed cost to design and provide construction/build documents.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a licensed architect, I have a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture and am a LEED AP (which means I understand the power of good design and great buildings). I taught design studio at CU Boulder for over a decade (which means I stay in contact with emerging trends and continue to do leading edge research). I absolutely love helping people make great places. But most importantly, I am a passionate advocate for ADUs and the housing option this brings to our best neighborhoods.
