I had the opportunity to work with Becca and Jenna on several occasions. PBC has helped me with ALL my websites, logos and marketing on social media. This has completely transformed my business as a makeup artist. I have referred them to colleagues and friends because they have done such a AMAZING job! When it comes to my seminars and classes I have had PBC help me with business cards, different invites and programs for hand outs. PBC has been a huge asset to my business. I highly recommend PBC to anyone wanting to boost their business and wanting to take their business to the next level!

Justin was awesome. I was coming off a very bad experience with a developer that did really shoddy work and Justin not only suggested some great creative feedback, he reengineered my site to be much more secure and easy to operate. I definitely plan on working with him again.

We hired Dan to do a mural on our girls' bedroom wall, and incorporate their bunkbed into the painting as well. It came out spectacular, better than we had hoped for! Dan is an amazing artist. The quality of the finished product was impressive, the price he charged was very reasonable, and he was easy to work with. The sample images he had shown us beforehand don't do his actual work justice. We would definitely hire Dan again and recommend him to others.

As President of the Denver Theatrical Stage, Film and Exhibition Employees, IATSE Local 7, contact was made to Kristine to aid us in the development of a new logo that would help us better speak to our local's past, the present and future. Our labor local was organized on December 3, 1891 and has been active in our industries since that time; highly active with a skilled work force that continues to establish our place and presence in the industries in which we serve, in the political arena and in the communities in which we all live and work. To say that Kristine caught the vision is somewhat like saying Attile the Hun was a troublemaker - except in a most positive, productive, creative and energetic manner. She took us far beyond what we had as an original concept - manipulated, refined, drew, redrew, redrew yet again to make sure that we were more than satisfied. Were we and are we? Well, next we turned Kristine loose on our business cards. I mean turned this most creative and energetic person loose. With her at the printers location looking at sample after sample, Kristine looking at the arrangement, the colors, the fonts, the type, etc., etc., etc. When I was ready to say "That looks good," Kristine's response was, "Not yet." Her final approval brought to us the most elegant, clear, simple and strongly stated information on a business card that I have ever had the privilege to display. As a past Senior Vice-President and COO of a 1,000 person organization in Southern California, as a past Project Manager for the City and County of Denver, as a past independent scenic artist for both stage and film work, I had come to know just a bit about business cards. When I tell you these most recent cards are wonderful, go back to comparing Attila to a trouble maker - only in a positive measure. And so we turned to creating a new parade banner with the new logo. Our previous parade banner was simply worn out. Beautiful, but worn out. Our banner is not quite done - but wait until you see it. Wowser!! The same is true for the new logo that will be displayed in the front window of our union office. Believe me, you will immediately know who we are and what we are about - past, present and future. Do I recomend Kristine for any measure of graphic design and implementation? Do I love the work in which I have been professionally engaged for the past 40 plus years? Do I love my wife, my children, my grandchildren? Not sure of the answer? Okay then, do I love my Harley-Davidson? So, there you go.... You do not hire Kristine for work; rather, Kristine captures you, your intent, your messages, your organization, the spirit of your work, the products you provide, and comes to display all of that in a series of presentations from which you wil have difficulty in choosing; guaranteed. Then in the making of choice, Kristine will guide you not to what she thinks is best, but what it is you finall rest upon as that which best expresses you, your intent, your messages, your organization, the spirit of your work, the products you provide; guaranteed. Kristine is a delightful person with whom to work, that she is highly organized, most timely in her responses (try next day), seems to care little about what she thinks and is so highly focued on what you think and what you want. Customer-focused, customer-oriented, customer-driven, customer, customer, customer - that is Kristine Kelly. Bringing Kristine on board to help you will be the best business decision you have made all year; guaranteed.

I initially hired Anna-Maria as an illustrator to create a series of drawings for a photography book I'm writing for a large New York publisher. She has begun this extensive project, and her early results are superb. This is still a work in progress, but she is a skilled graphic artist who stepped up to the job with great energy and sensitivity to the images that appear in this book. I've also tapped into her grapjhic design background, and her familiarity with many fields related to publishing. to do some of the complex work of research and acquisition involving historic and archival photographs. This is a rare skill. She clearly has an acute sense of priorities and a feel for working on, and under, budget --both critical to this long term project. To sum her up,? I couldn't be happier with Anna-Maria. I'll send a followup review when we've finished. if you like, and hope still have some superlatives left to evaluate her then.

Zak was outstanding! We had spoken weeks earlier with someone else who failed to respond as promised, leaving us with no photographer just weeks before a Labor Day weekend wedding. As luck would have it, a client referred Zak. He responded immediately, reassuring us that we were in good hands. And so it was. Zak was somehow everywhere he needed to be on our special day but without ever getting in the way. He provided us with instant prints so that we had a photo-timeline of our day that same evening. When we saw the full album of digital photos, we were blown away. Zak captured not only the images of our preparation, ceremony, and celebration, but also the mood and feelings of the happiest day of our lives. Thank you, Zak, from our hearts!

Esteban helped me design a card for my friend. Being an artist, I provided him with watercolor designs and line art of an owl that I drew. He pieced everything together for me in a visually interesting way that really made all my art pop. I ended up making several cards because I was so pleased with his design. I've worked with him on several projects, and he is always very knowledgeable, with lots of great brainstorming ideas and neat tricks for design. He is passionate about his work, and he is always experimenting and trying new things. He has never disappointed!

We used Ashlee Crowden Photography for my sister’s wedding, and I couldn’t be happier with the photographs we received. Having a critical artistic eye myself, I was very particular about who would photograph my sister’s wedding. I knew after the day was over and the memories would fade, the photos would be all we would have left to remember the special day. After seeing Ashlee’s website and portfolio, other photographer’s work did not compare to hers. Her attention to detail, artistic eye, use of the right flattering angles, and phenomenal editing skills were some of the things I noticed about her work right from the start. Ashlee developed a schedule for my sister’s wedding day which was helpful for everyone involved. On my sister’s actual wedding day, working with Ashlee was a great experience. She was very professional, friendly and organized. Three things, in my opinion, that a photographer should be. I will most definitely be using Ashlee in the future and would recommend her for any event or photo needs you may have.

Research. Prior to starting any project I extensively research my client's industry and who their customer is. When say who their customer is, I don't mean information like age, gender and socioeconomic status. I want to know what makes them tick. Are they up at night stressed about their mortgage? Do they have a jar sitting on their desk saving change for a trip? What are their goals? What are their desires? What are their worries? How can my clients products or services fit in to their lives? Without research a marketer is lost whether they're creating a campaign or just writing a tweet. By including research in my process I'm able to better deliver results for my clients. My work is also differentiated because it's results oriented. In starting to think about a project I also consider how I can measure results. Tracking analytics to refine strategy is a continuos process in my work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a web designer?

Your website is often the first thing your customers see when they’re searching for a business or service on the web. As the face of your organization, your website needs to be attractive and functional, offering the latest features that users now expect. To plan and design a site that both reflects your company’s mission and values and appeals to customers takes a professional web designer. While free online services can help people set up websites, web designers can provide a unique solution made specifically to meet customers’ personal or business needs.

Most web designers offer a wide variety of services to make your website aesthetically pleasing and easy to use. Modern web design must be mobile-friendly and scalable, capable of expanding to include a blog, social media sites, and even video streaming; web designers are experts at integrating various web technologies. They can build the site, add functionality, test it, launch it on a live server, and track and maintain its performance.

In addition to web design and graphic design, some web design providers also offer development and security services, including search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing and management, logo design, site maintenance, domain registration and hosting, protection against malware, and digital marketing and content services.

How much do web designers charge?

The average cost for hiring a web designer varies greatly depending on the scope of the work, which may range from building a site from scratch to rebranding an existing one, as well as the amount of content and graphics the designer will create. In general, the more complex the project, the more time the design agency will have to spend. Because web designers often work on an hourly basis, the longer the project, the higher the costs; you can count on the web designer spending at minimum 10 hours to create a very basic website with just a handful of pages with few elements. Prices also depend on the designer’s skill set, the process, and the company’s rates. In general, the national average cost for a basic website package starts at $500, but a customized website can cost as much as $2,000 or more. Here are typical average hourly rates, broken out by the complexity of the work:

  • Basic layout and user interface: $15-$40 per hour
  • Content management system design: $20-$50 per hour
  • Custom website design with custom code: $45-$75 per hour

What should you look for in a website designer?

A professional web designer creates the look and feel of your website, collaborating with you to choose colors, creating logos and other branding materials, establishing page layouts, and creating sample pages. An important part of web design is making sure the site is functional, meets your goals, and is easy for users to navigate. When you’re looking to hire a web designer, start by reviewing the person’s portfolio. Look for samples of work that match what you envision for your website, including experience building the types of pages or features you want. Make sure the web designer is familiar with your industry and understands both industry trends and web design trends — an old-fashioned or out-of-touch site will turn customers away rather than intrigue them.

Because web designers tend to work as freelancers on a project basis, they must be excellent communicators, willing to manage their own work, and available on your schedule. Some critical skills, such as working collaboratively and responding enthusiastically to feedback, aren’t core to good web design, but make working with a web designer much easier. Finally, look for a web designer who has cross-functional knowledge, such as understanding marketing and conversion rate optimization in addition to web design.

What makes a good logo design?

A good logo is an easily identifiable, memorable image that represents your brand. A good logo design aligns with your business model and expresses your company’s core values. A good logo design is simple, appealing, and easy for customers and viewers to quickly process. Some of the key components of a great logo are type, color palette and design. The scale, font and arrangement of the text you select will all make a difference in the feel and representation of your brand. A graphic designer will help you home in on the colors that best represent your identity and help you keep the color palette simple. The design of your logo includes the shapes you select and the way the color and type are arranged together. Investing in the services of a professional to create your logo design is likely a smart investment for any size business. Nationally, the average price range for a logo designer ranges from $170 to $250.

What do you look for in a web design company?

The web design company you choose must be able to interpret your company’s mission and identity and turn it into an appealing website that connects with potential customers. They must help you reach your target audience and meet your business goals. A web design agency should have on staff both talented web designers, with fresh ideas and extensive technical and creative skills, and a marketing team that knows how to drive traffic to your site, encourage visitor engagement, and convert visitors into customers. Web designers should be able to build in search optimization and integrate your site with a content management system and e-commerce tools. Look, too, for a website design company that understands responsive design and can optimize your website for mobile devices and desktop browsers. The right web design company understand current design and website trends, has experience building sites in a variety of industries (not just yours), and has an expansive portfolio of live websites. Finally, don’t simply hire the cheapest bidder — in web design, as in all things, you get what you pay for.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
