These two gentlemen did a fantastic job. My request was as soon as they could get me on the books and thankfully for me they had a cancellation in 2 days...move took 2 hours and was perfect. The guys were professional, pleasant and very respectful of our furnishings and home. I would absolutely use them again. Thank you!

Marc was incredibly helpful and professional. I am a new home owner and didn't know the ins and out of my system. He helped with the leaks in my drip line I expected to have and helped me understand my entire system, fixing other issues in the process. He was courteous and friendly throughout the visit and I would hire him again in an instant.

Mike was great. Wish I had known it was only clogged instead of having to pay $65 for a home visit, but he unclogged it for me so it was worth it. Thanks!

Charlie was able to come out last minute to take care of several issues in my renovated home. He was prompt and professional and the work is top notch. I am going to have him come back out to take care of some additional new sink and toilet installations very soon. Highly recommend.

Dave did an awesome job! Not only did he replace the disposal unit but pointed out several other minor issues which he resolved for no extra cost. The space was left clean and orderly and his work didn't disturb my home office business. Knowledgeable, professional, affordable, and just plain nice guy. I will definitely seek out his assistance in the future.

I got to know Mark through work and have known him a number of years. He has put office furniture together, cubicle reconfigures and other miscellaneous jobs. He always asks the right questions before starting any task, he does the task swiftly and very well. He is outstanding to work with and will do what is needed to get the job done. He is always smiling and has a great personality which helps too. I would recommend Mark for any job around the office or at home. He is great and I value his skills very much! Karen M

5280 was at my home performing the work less than 3 hours after I requested a quote. I had 2 ceiling fans, a chandelier, and a smoke alarm installed and the workmanship was top notch. The electricians were extremely pleasant, professional and respectful of my home. I would not hesitate to hire 5280 Electric again.

The workers are polite and come promptly and work very hard. I hired them to do one job at first... to demolish a 14 X 18 foot wall of bricks/entertainment center in a new home that I purchased. My husband and I were very pleased and then re-hired the crew to do a dozen more things to renovate and update this home. Among the tasks they removed tile, removed a 3-way facing gas fireplace that was awkwardly placed, remove brick facing off some columns, move a few floor outlets, take out dated shower sliding doors and move chandeliers and some utility cabinets (so I'd have more space for my large washer/dryer). And more! This is an excellent company that I will continue to use for smaller projects. No one on the team even flinched when I changed my mind about things, they just go with the flow... and do what I ask like true professionals. Pricing on my original project was the best on thumbtack, and continues to be very fair.

Professional and punctual, completed the job in less than the estimated time, and with excellent results in a difficult area to hang large paintings (an old staircase in an 1886 built home).

Matt is an excellent handyman who was capable of doing everything I needed to get my house ready to sell. While homebuying/selling can be very stressful, Matt was certainly a very bright spot in the work that he did for me. His tasks included replacing the caulking in the bathrooms/kitchen, replacing door trim, patching and painting over some dings in the walls, and installing privacy film on several windows. There were probably a couple more things that I missed. Matt showed up every day at the time we agreed, and ensured a very high standard of quality with his work. My house was on the market for just 36 hours before we received an offer at $5k over asking, and I credit Matt's work with helping to make that possible. I would have him back any time to do more work on my new home.

Marc built us a beautiful redwood front porch! He kept us involved the entire time and was the most reasonably priced. All of our neighbors are asking for his info! He also worked while we weren't even there and made sure to stay on track even when Home Depot failed to deliver materials on time, he went and got them himself.

I’m very big on audio clarity. The guys at denver sight showed me how the new sonos system has a built in system that tunes the speakers to the size of the room. They did it for all the rooms I have speakers in and it sounds incredible. I will recommend sight and sound to everyone that wants to get the most out of their home audio equipment

Dustin was awesome! Very punctual, reasonably priced, efficient, knowledgeable and courteous. I had him over just to add an electrical outlet outside, but he found a major issue within a matter of minutes. He was very efficient and knowledgeable on how to fix the issue, and even agreed to provide me with pictures, a detailed email on what was wrong, and offered to come out and show the home inspector what should have been caught during the inspection process. Dustin went above and beyond, and I will surely be using him again for any electrical needs!

Brett was so friendly and on time. Very easy to communicate with. He has a lot of knowledge in all areas of home improvement, and went above and behind the repairs I requested. I had my bathroom repainted and recaulked, and he went the extra mile and offered ideas for cabinetry and aesthetics, so my bathroom got an overhaul! I'm very happy with the result.

I had Jim completely renovate my home. He put in hard flooring throughout the entire house and stairway, knocked out a partial wall to my kitchen, painted the entire house, got rid of the old popcorn ceiling and more. From the beginning to the end, Jim was always easy to contact and he communicated very effectively. I arrived in Fort Collins on the day he finished and we did a walk through. My jaw just dropped as he showed me all the new updates. He went above and beyond and really made sure everything was done perfectly. He started and finished on time and stayed within my budget. I am constantly getting compliments on all of the renovations. I will be sure to contact him again when I have my next big project. Thank you, Jim for such a wonderful experience and working with me even though I was out-of-state the entire time.

I highly recommend SCB Handy Man Services. I recently had multiple tasks around our home to be done but could not find a "single" company to provide multiple tasks. My husband and I both work, two kids in sports and just didn't have time to get to what we needed and wanted to do to our home. We hired SCB to clean gutters, patch and paint some walls, gut and re-do our bathroom, fix a leaking sink and running toilette in another bathroom, replace our garbage disposal, and replace a light fixture. There was some other odd and things that SCB discovered and repaired along the way! I also learned that SCB provides complete remodels and other fix-it stuff. SCB was on-time, available, professional, easy on the wallet and can do just about anything!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who wall mounts TVs?

Electricians, handymen and TV installation specialists may all provide television mounting services. The person who does the mounting should be qualified and knowledgeable about basic construction concepts as well as working with audiovisual cables. In general, no specialized certificates are required to provide television mounting services, but as always do your diligence and make smart hiring decisions.

It’s important to find an experienced professional who will ensure the TV wall mount meets building code. Most regions have fire codes that don’t permit high-voltage power cords behind walls (low-voltage wires like HDMI and video cables are generally acceptable). A basic wall mount on drywall may take approximately one to two hours, while more complex mounts on brick or stone with hidden cables can take three or more hours. If you need more electrical outlets installed near your entertainment system, you may want to hire an electrician. Check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to mount a TV?

Elevate your home style with television mounting services. The national average price for television mounting services ranges between $100 and $130. Factors that can affect cost are the material of the wall you want the TV mounted on, whether you want the wires hidden, and any additional entertainment system connection you desire. It probably costs more to mount a TV on brick, stone or concrete than on drywall or plaster due to the added labor required to drill holes. For example, a company may charge an additional $99 to mount a TV on a brick wall. Here are some examples of average costs for television mounting services:

  • Basic TV wall mount: $40. Does not include bracket, device connection or strip management.
  • TV wall mount: $119. Includes bracket, mounting services, strip management system (for concealing external wires), and connection of all entertainment devices.
  • TV wall mount with wires hidden inside wall: $139.
  • Installation of additional electrical outlet: $65.
  • TV wall mount over fireplace with wires hidden: $179-$249.
  • TV wall mount and up to 5 speakers wall-mounted with hidden wires: $399.

Can a TV be mounted above a fireplace?

You may be able to mount your flat screen TV above your fireplace for a more streamlined look in your living room. In fact, TV mounting professionals can hang your flat screen TV flush with a wall or from a tilting or full-motion bracket mount in any room in your home. A tilting or full-motion mount may be the best option above a fireplace so you can tilt the TV down for the best viewing angle. Whether the wall above your fireplace is brick, drywall, concrete, stone or plaster, most television mounting services can accommodate your needs. Hardier wall surfaces like concrete or brick will require more labor and expertise to mount, and will likely have a higher price range.

If you want your AV and cable wires hidden in the wall, you will also pay a higher price due to the added time and skill to properly drill the holes and run wires. Before mounting your TV above your fireplace, consult with the manufacturer about necessary distance from heat sources. If the space above your fireplace gets too warm, another location could be better for the longevity of your TV. Your television mounting services may take between one and two hours, or more depending on your home theater setup.

How much does it cost for surround sound installation?

If you’re installing your dream home theater, you want the perfect sound system to round it out. The cost for surround sound installation will vary based on the speaker system you select, the amount of wiring and prep required for the job, and labor rates in your region. Home theater installation specialists can advise on the best surround sound speakers for your space and the technology you are using. Here are some examples of average home theater installation costs and the cost of surround sound speakers:

  • TV wall mount and up to 5 wall-mounted speakers with hidden wires: $399.
  • 60-inch TV and small home system: $2,080.
    • Equipment cost: $1,680.
      • Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500.
      • Three HDMI wires: $30.
      • Surround amp: $250.
      • 60-inch TV and bracket: $900.
      • Labor cost: $400 Including setup, wiring and TV mounting.
  • Projector and screen system plus audio wiring throughout home: $12,900.
    • Equipment cost: $9,900.
      • Approximate wire costs: $2,700.
      • Projector and bracket: $1,500.
      • 110-inch screen: $600.
      • Surround amp: $500.
      • 5-inch ceiling speakers and sub: $1,400.
      • Remote control system: $400.
      • Eight zones of speakers and volume controls: $2,800 ($350 each)
      • Labor cost: $3,000. Includes prewiring for 5-inch ceiling speakers, one subwoofer, one 20-inch to 50-inch HDMI, Cat. 6 control wire to projector, 1.5-inch tube for future wire changes, and wiring for two to eight additional audio zones throughout the home. All equipment (audio boxes, amps, cable box, etc.) is concealed. The audio zones are controllable by iOS devices from anywhere in the home.
