Service was great. Chris was very responsive. Gave an hour window of time for arrival and called when he was 20 minutes away. He arrived within the window and got the job done promptly. Very happy with the service.

I put in a request to have a couple of custom windows replaced and Neil and his team quickly responded to my request and came out to replace the windows the same day. They were quick in replacing the windows with good quality workmanship and were a good value.

Excellent, outstanding , well crafted, professional and a job well done. That's our description for the second floor, 21 fts. Patio extension he crafted on our house. It blend perfect with the existent patio. The bottom is also flushed and the columns are just the same style. Ryan was not only an excellent carpenter creating an exact extension of our existent patio, he also installed a barn door in our bathroom, installed a sliding door where a window was located, fixed the kitchen top cabinet and provided accurate guidance and advise at every single important decision we had to make in the process. His effort and dedication facilitated a stressful process. He is not only our carpenter; today is our friend. This wonderful man is extremely respectful, dedicated, positive, methodical on his crafting process. He is proud of his work's result and enjoyed the ride of remodel our house. He is well connected with skilled construction men that also helped in specific tasks at the house. If you are looking for a skilled, fair price, professional and dedicated carpenter or construction company which is licensed, possess insurance and know the legal process to get a construction permit, RW remodelers is the company you should trust.

So John did a lot of work for us. His craftsmanship is very good. The only thing I wasn't happy with was the actual install of our windows, but his workers did that. One window was damaged going in and when I asked the worker about it, he was defensive and combative. After the windows were installed however, I only worked with John. He did all of the casing around the windows which turned out beautiful. He remodeled our master bath and half bath with marble tile and also did a beautiful job. His tile work is very good. He really pays attention to detail. He cut and installed our baseboard. He installed new plumbing, bathroom cabinets, mirrors, he installed outdoor lighting, he really did a ton of work. I was very happy with all of the work he did. Any problems that may have come up, he addressed immediately. I can't say enough nice things about John.

Jeff built a beautiful custom boot rack in my home out of old barn wood. It's perfect! Friends and family that visit say it looks like a western store display. I highly recommend Jeff for custom woodwork needs around your home.

Melissa and Patrick did an amazing job painting the interior of our house. They are very detail oriented and produce high quality results. They also installed a new patio door, which looks great. Their prices were reasonable and I would use them for future projects.

Aaron and Levi did a great job with my fence. I needed 3 replacement posts and added a second gate to the other side of my house. They showed up when they said they would and they worked their butts off to finish in one day. The work was well done and they handled themselves like true professionals. I would recommend and will be hiring them again for my next project. Thanks!

KJG built a porch on the front of our house, replacing a small set of stairs with a large and extremely well built 8x16 foot structure. The porch is not only substantially sound and well built, but exactly what we were promised. They kept the area organized and clean, ensuring that we didn't have any issues both during and after the project. They even went so far as to fill in an area next to the rebuilt porch, to maintain the appearance of the front of our house. I wholeheartedly recommend this company both for their professionalism and for their compentency. I will have no issues using them for other projects around our property.

I just had my deck , patio slab, and sliding patio doors project done through Red Earth Construction. Family team of Jim, Jason, and Jim Sr. I would use them again. I'm very cautious of who I would use as I have terrible experiences working with contractors in the past, losing money and having uncompleted poor projects.. Each time I have learned what not to do, but having met Jim who I went through the process was great. You get a sense of trust and confidence working with him. I had a budget and I did get other quotes but they came in with the best quote including with the 2 patio doors (custom done through Sunrise). The deck and patio slab took a full week to get done, and sliding doors were put in after. All of their crews that did the specific projects did a beautiful job, I was most impressed with Jerry their window/door installer. They did and great job retro fitting the beautiful sliding patio doors with the blinds . Meticulous on housekeeping , and detail . I will go through Red Earth Construction again on different home projects that can do. The family are all great, professional and easy to work with.

Howard is very contentious and did a great job repairing the joists on our deck! He also recommended against a suggestion from the Home Inspector that the new joists be married up to the rotting joists. He said this would give you double the rotting joists! He replaced them instead and I really appreciated his suggestion and candor.

Michael installed our over-sized kitchen sink. We have granite counter tops, and he was the only person willing to cut the granite to make room for our sink without charging an arm and a leg! Michael was extremely polite, cleaned up after himself, and provided quality work and an excellent price. As we continue to renovate our home we look forward to hiring him again!

I've known John for over 10 years. We hired him to tile some floors before we put our home on the market. John had a wealth of knowledge on all the details from selecting the surfaces through proper installation. His work was excellent and the quality was commented on by potential buyers. John is a rare craftsman and a true joy to have working in one's home!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
