I chose Cosmo Cleaning because I like to use Pros who don't have a lot of review history. If they provide great service, I can give them an outstanding review to help boost their business. I enjoy helping small local businesses that way, though there is always a risk. I can tell you that it cost me greatly this time around.
When Cosomo contacted me, they quoted me an uncompetitive price to clean an empty 3-bedroom/3-bathroom house for a move-out clean, and I told them this. I told them I could have used pros with more reviews/experience for less. This isn't a secret; anyone can put a job bid out there to validate that. I told them I was choosing them to help them out, but if the price they wanted was their final quote, I would look elsewhere. The person on the phone relented and quoted me the price I originally wanted, which worked for me. He seemed to really want my business.
On the day of the service, when the cleaning crew got there, I told them they only had to clean two of the three bedrooms (I still had a few pieces of office and computer equipment in that room I hadn't moved), so their job was even smaller than what I had intended, but I was going to pay the same price we agreed upon. That was fine with me. So they only had to clean two bedrooms and three bathrooms -- one of which was a half bathroom. After 3 hours, the same person called me back, saying they needed to add more cost to the project because my house was "extraordinarily dirty"...... It was an empty house with no furniture in it. I have a dog, and she sheds like any dog, so there was fur all over the hardwood floor after the furniture was moved, but this is not unusual for any house with a dog or cat that sheds. I've used cleaners many times, and it's never been an issue. They tried to move the price up EVEN more than they originally wanted in our initial call! After I pushed back, they brought it down a bit, but still $100 more than what we agreed to. This was unacceptable and, in my eyes, a deliberate bait-and-switch tactic to charge me more. I believe this was their intent the entire time. I told them NO, and they left before my house was fully cleaned. So the job was unfinished. The person on the phone tried to convince me that they charged more because they have more experience than others, and other pros who charged less were not as good as they are. He also tried to convince me that my house was over-the-top dirty, and it wasn't. Every room was an empty, square room that required vacuuming and mopping like any empty house after living there for 1.5 years. This is not my first move-out nor my first time hiring cleaning crews on Thumbtack.
I love Thumbtack and have had excellent experiences with great pros, and it has been my pleasure to leave great reviews. I've never had a poor experience in all these years I've used Thumbtack until I chose these folks. I would never use them again, nor would I recommend them. I finally got burned using an unproven company, and I regret that mistake. I do not doubt that any of the other folks who bid on my job would have done better than this company, and I wish I had selected them instead.
