Hired on Thumbtack

Rob did an excellent job in replacing my new microwave after having to remove wood casing surrounding it. Everything was put back together and nothing needed to be replaced.

Hired on Thumbtack

I would HIGHLY not recommend Rob for home renovation or repair work, especially if you are a Woman. I hired him based on his claims of lifelong construction experience and pride in his work, but my experience was the opposite. While he initially cleaned up after removing drywall, that quickly changed. He repeatedly dropped drywall mud and paint wherever he was working, walked through it tracking it where ever he went, saying it will come out with a rag & water, implying I should clean it. Rob often arrived unprepared, without basic supplies like rags, proper tools, or floor protection. For example he installed baseboards without a nail gun, leaving visible holes. The places he said he would put baseboard unless I reminded him, it wouldn't have been done. He also didn't caulk various areas until I informed him. He said he would do it once washing machine was here, which was cumbersome to get to. His hope was for me to forget, which I didn't! Rob worked in a rushed and disorganized way-starting multiple tasks w/out finishing them, despite knowing my laundry room was a priority due to an incoming appliance delivery. Rob showed little respect for my home, placing tools on furniture, countertops, and floors leaving behind debris. At one point screws from vents that were taken off the ceiling were left embedded in my hardwood floors, causing indentations in the floors. The quality of work was also poor. He painted a 20' x 8' ceiling in about 30 minutes and claimed it was complete, but coverage was uneven, paint bled onto walls as well as a huge splatter on the wall. He asked me to mark areas for touch-up, effectively making me responsible for quality control. He left a sheet of cut out drywall on my patio with dust from cutting, along with dust from baseboards and made no effort to clean it up for the weekend. He stated his wife said she always has to clean up after me. I said I can totally see why she would say that. He said I should hire you to clean up, I said no thank you, you're exhausting! His associate, Derek, demonstrated more care, skill & knowledge with textures, but the overall experience was still problematic. After receiving $3,200.00, Rob stopped being involved, leaving Derek to continue painting and stripping a bathtub several times. He was late daily 30 to 70 minutes causing more frustration. I was never provided with a clear estimate for individual projects despite requesting one. In hindsight, this was a huge mistake. Based on Rob not taking pride in his work I decided to not have him scrape wood around my front windows & re-paint as I know the quality would be more of the same. I was not refunded adequately for this. As I know he would have charged way more than $200.00 to strip & paint the area. I truly am so frustrated and disappointed with this entire situation and there is absolutely nothing I can do, except share my experience and hope that you don't find yourself in the same predicament. I was sick at the time and after one Thumbtack handyman not following through with an estimate, I believed in what appeared to be someone who knew exactly what to say i.e., I have a daughter and sister and I always think of them when I help single women, no you take advantage of single women. Rob agree he would be here today to replace the spout that was broken on my tub when removed and failed to do so. Again, he had Derek reach out and because I have been dealing with this over a month I let Derek come. I told Rob I wanted to him to see that the tub had some issues, he refused to show up. He took the money and ran because he showed his true character. I find solace knowing Karma is real. I will try to work on uploading photos.
