Marc has been wonderful to work with. He is patient, and takes his time on every job, doing the job correctly and with significant conscientiousness. He did not hesitate to inform me of any concerns or issues with each job. I had 50 cabinet pulls to put on new construction cabinets, many of which had been handmade and were inconsistent. Marc took extra time and care to make sure that every pull was level and consistent on my cabinets. I will use Marc for every household handyman need from now on.

Shane was on time and his prices were extremely reasonable. I requested a few major door adjustments, (sagging doors that wouldn't close properly.). A garbage disposal replacement, ceiling touch up painting and repair from a water leak. And many, many other repairs too numerous to mention. What a great find! Will definitely use this service again! other household items that were completed on time and very professionally.

Lifestyle moving is wonderful. These gentlemen were such professionals in wrapping and packing the truck. We had a whole household to load, and with their expertise, everything fit into one truck. They were very careful in everything they touched. They even brought extra materials to protect our floors and walls. They were able to help me with several last minute items. And we appreciated their friendly, respectful approach. I plan to hire them again with other moving and cleaning projects.

I have used the Handyman Can to do various projects around my home. I've had a 50 Gallon water heater installed and the old one removed. A new sump pump installed, new kitchen sink installed, towel racks, and miscellaneous lighting done. I'm very pleased with all of his work he has done at my home and recommend him to all my friends and family for their household projects. He is reliable and does excellent work. Matt has helped me with my projects that have been stacking up that I haven't been able to get to myself, and really things I need someone better at the projects than I am. He has removed my greenhouse foundation (post hail storm), painting my back yard trellis, repairing shelving, hanging heavy items, sealing outdoor paintings, repairing a hose bib, making an overflow for my catch water, and installing a new electronic lock. He was on time, prepared, helpful with creative solutions, flexible with my preferences (it is an old house with unique issues). I will be having him return for ongoing household needs.

I couldn't be more pleased or impressed with Michael as a person and a professional. I knew from the moment I met him that he was trustworthy, knowledgeable, and a generally good person. I hired him for a days worth of projects around my house and he went above and beyond to ensure that I'd be pleased with the results. He came up with great solutions I hadn't thought of and kept an eye out for potential problems around my house -- something I wanted from a handyman. I just can't say enough about Michael. He will be my go-to person for all household projects that I can't do myself.

Christine was my housekeeper for year and a half. She did an excellent job of keeping up my three bedroom 2 1/2 bath home in Highlands Ranch. She came in weekly and get my house looking very nice. She was always willing to do any special jobs that I need it done that week. I would highly recommend her to anybody and had a busy household and needed a hand.

Christina is great. My husband and I had gotten really far behind in our household cleaning since I started working full time again in July. She totally understood our situation and wasn't even phased by the amount of work that needed to be done. It took two visits, 4 hours each day, but it is finally back to a manageable state thanks to Christina and her hard work. It's amazing coming home to a clean house :) I only give her 4 stars because my mom was a house cleaner when I was growing up and she set the bar pretty high as far as my expectations. If my mom were here I would have hired her lol But overall I would definitely recommend Christina's services and we do plan to use her in the future.

Hello, I would like to share my recent moving experience with Christopher Perkins! First of all he’s just a genuine good guy and second he is a GREAT mover. He takes pride in what he does! My items were already packed and labeled. Chris and his guys were very careful when loading and stacking my household items in the truck. Blankets and other materials was used to make sure my items was not damaged. Plastic was placed on the floors of my new home so they would not be tracked from the movers. My items was taken off the truck with great care and placed in each room accordingly to how they were labeled. The move was completed in an orderly and timely fashion. I would definitely refer Chris to others.. Thanks Chris/Beyond Moving and Cleaning for taking such great care of my household items.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is house sitting?

A house sitter watches your house while you are away for work or vacation, or if you have to be away for an extended period. House sitters can also provide pet-sitting services, staying in your home and caring for your pet while you are away. The house sitter can say overnight in your home while you’re gone, or stop by once a day to ensure everything is in order if your pet doesn’t need overnight supervision. Reptiles and most cats are just fine with daily visits and feeding.

House sitting provides major advantages to the homeowner. A regular presence in your house deters break-ins and theft. Home safety issues such as water leaks get noticed and dealt with right away, so you don’t come home to big problems. A house sitter can bring in your mail daily, care for your houseplants, and provide home safety and peace of mind.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

      • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
      • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
        • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
      • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

      What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor.
