I have known Margie for over 10 years now. I am so glad she started her "Little Dove Pet Wash" mobile grooming business! Having the groomer come to you is a plus with the busy schedule we all carry. Margie is one of the sweetest and heartfelt person I know and the #1 thing that is important to a pet owner is to be able to trust the person that will be grooming your dog. She will love your dog and be the professional business person that is to be expected along with sharing with you a few hearty laughs. Her mobile part of her business is new but not the years of dedicated grooming hours she has put in throughout her carrier. As busy as she is she still finds time to help at the shelters making the animals beautiful. Margie you are the best! Helen

Aislyn is awesome! She walks my dog, Rider everyday. It helps me from coming home during my lunch break, and gives Rider the exercise he needs. It's a win win.

I used Rocky Paws for over 5 years. They trained and helped to socialize my dog as well as doing daily walks and boarding her. They are responsible, punctual, kind and loving. I couldn't have asked for better care. I would highly recommend them.

      About

At Downtown Dog and Cat, we understand that pets are a part of the family. That's why we work hard to ensure that while you're away, your furry friend will have the time of his or her life! Our facilities offer a clean, fun, and, most importantly, safe environment. We want your pet to look forward to seeing us while you're gone. And to make this happen, our friendly, trained, and certified staff will accommodate every animal's unique set of needs. Our affordable services fit a wide range of budgets, and our hours of operations fit many schedules. If you're looking to drop your dog before work, great idea! Our doggy day care provides a climate-controlled indoor playroom plus 4,000 square feet of outdoor play space. There are plenty of dogs to socialize with and staff on-hand, ready to play, while you're at the office. Maybe you're looking for a weekend trip or longer? Think of our dog boarding overnight services like a hotel tailored to suit your dog's every need: socializing at doggy day care during the day, treat service and fluffy, warm beds at night. Our feline friends will find themselves right at home in our scratch-post forest, full of hide-a-ways and perch lookouts. Schedule your dog or cat an appointment in our grooming salon! Our certified groomers have over 30 years of experience providing the following services: bathing, nail trim (dog's only), and various trims to suit your pet's unique style. We are conveniently located by I-25 and I-70, just north of downtown. If you are going to work or the airport, we are a quick stop on the way. Please feel free to give us a call and we'll answer any questions or concerns you might have. Our reputation means everything to us, which is why we only allow animals that have their important vaccinations and "interview" them before they are allowed to stay. Your animal will only stay if he or she wants to, and we'll find out through our process if that's the case. During our interview, we make sure all animals get along and play nice while they are here. We have a process in place to eliminate as much stress from leaving your dog or cat with us as possible. And that's why humans and pets alike always agree, a stay at Downtown Dog and Cat is always 5 out of 5 paws!

      About

I am available to help folks with dog sitting/dog walking chores at their residence or wherever the animal is most comfortable and familiar. I am willing to work with most dogs, large or small (from 1 to 140 pounds), as long as they are not vicious or in need of immediate care by a vet. I was raised on a farm in Southeastern Colorado, so animals, in general, are dear to me, and I enjoy them in my life. I am a Christian who believes in Jesus Christ and obeys His word today after being delivered from a troubled past that mostly worshiped a bottle of booze. I am hoping to grow my business by word of mouth and based on the merits of my efforts and earned customer references.

That is why I want to hang out with and care for your pets! I am very responsible and flexible with hours, so I will really be up for whatever you need me to do.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

      What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

      What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

      • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
      • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
      • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
      • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
      • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
      • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

      • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
      • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
      • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
      • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
      • Wash and dry: $60
      • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
      • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
