FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We schedule a time for a phone call to see what their training goals are and if I am a good match for them. After that, I have them fill out a brief questionnaire to save time during our initial consult, so we can dive into the training process as quickly as possible. After each session I send a summary via email so my clients always have notes to refer back to when working with their dog on their own. I also am available as a resource for my clients to contact me with questions that might arise during or after training.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Psychology from CU Boulder-- this helps me be an effective teacher for my human clients as well as my canine clients! It is here that I found my passion for training dogs, and spent my 4 years in college also volunteering at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley working with shelter dogs until they were adopted. I continue my education every day, as I believe (especially in this field), we are never done learning. From reading the latest research articles, books, to watching webinars/DVDs, and (my favorite) attending in person seminars, my quest for the most effective and up-to-date training methods never cease.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was lucky enough to start volunteering at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley while I was attending CU Boulder. During my 4 years as a volunteer there, I was a part of a program called STAR. In this program we would be assigned a dog from the shelter who needed a little extra help, and would train him regularly until he was adopted. A wonderful trainer in the area volunteered her time to teach us the skills needed to work with each of these dogs. It was a challenging, but incredibly rewarding experience and is what put me on my path to becoming the founder of In Good Paws Dog Training. From there, I read every book I could get my hands on, shadowed other trainers, and trained with a 2 different companies before setting out on my own.
