About
Organized, Clear Techniques While we tailor our program to the individual needs of you and your dog, we also have proven techniques that produce outstanding results. You will know exactly what to do in order to see progress with a clear prognosis after your first session. Results You don’t want to waste your time and money on training that doesn’t work or will take a lifetime for results. Your Backcountry Buddies trainers are well-versed in a multitude of techniques to troubleshoot what works best for your dog and your life. Understanding Trainers Unlike many other dog training companies, it is never “our way or the highway.” We want both what works with you and what works for your dog. We will never judge you for techniques you’ve employed previously, nor will we push our own training agenda on you if it’s something you’re not comfortable with. We are here to work together for the good of your family! Balanced Approach With Backcountry Buddies, your dog will not just work for treats, and your dog won’t just work because they’re scared of you, either. We lay a thorough positive foundation of training that creates a lasting bond and shows your dog and pup exactly what to do. Once they are clear and fluent on making the correct choices, they learn that there are consequences for incorrect choices. We feel like we are making a difference in the world! Pets are scientifically proven to reduce stress and provide a quality of life for people that you can't get anywhere else. We want to help keep animals in their homes, take the guilt and difficulty off working professionals, and allow people to enjoy their pets to the fullest. There is nothing more rewarding than that!

Where do we even begin?! Claire and Victoria are AMAZING. When we sent our two dogs for the two week boarding/training program we were certainly hesitant and nervous of what to expect, but having recently gotten our boys home we wish we would have done it sooner! We sent two dogs to partake in the program: Prost (1 year old - lab mix) and Porter (6 month old - Aussie/collie mix). Both dogs had horrible door manners with Prost having a serious territorial behavior when guests would come in our door. Furthermore, they both had leash aggression that was out of control. My fiancé and I had become the "midnight walkers". Living downtown in a dog friendly apartment we felt trapped at times wishing we could take our dogs on all of our adventures especially since we knew how loving and great dogs they were! That's where Backcountry Buddies comes in. Claire and Victoria listened to all of our concerns and what we hoped to have accomplished, and they went above and beyond our expectations and needs. We received daily texts and videos showing the boys in their training, and after just ONE day the boys were already leaps and bounds beyond where they were before. The dogs that they train really do live life with Claire and Victoria. They got to go to stores, breweries, dog parks, hikes, everywhere! Backcountry trains your dogs for real life, which is amazing. Forever and ever we are so grateful for them from the bottom of our hearts. They are extremely professional and were always quick to respond to our calls/texts. We will be returning to them for all our needs from this day forth. We are so excited to now take OUR training and further progress strong foundation they have instilled. Happy dogs, happy family. Thank you backcountry!!!

Training my dog is still a work in progress, however my experience with Claire and Backcounty Buddies has been amazing. My dog is terrible. Terrible. Never once did I feel like I'd done something wrong by being the owner of a true monster dog. Everything feels like it's do-able!

Rachel, Bertle Bug is an adorable little werewolf. You've done great work with her and we can't wait to do more! Thank you so much for the nice review.

My husband and I sent our two dogs to their 2-week Board and Train program. Claire and Victoria were great with answering all of our questions throughout the program and even now after the program. They also worked within our schedules for picking up and dropping off the dogs. We are very happy with the progress our dogs have made! The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is I did not expect all the work that I still needed to when the dogs returned. Not only do they train your dogs, but then they train you how to train your dogs, which is still on going.

Thank you, Gwendolyn! We have really enjoyed working with you, Eric, Coco, and Pecan. Dog training is definitely a "team sport," especially for dogs with extreme reactivity and anxiety issues. We can train them to be perfect around us, but what good would that do for you guys at home? :) You can definitely expect some lifestyle changes and to learn how to maintain the training so that the pups don't go right back to where they started. Part of the success in good dog training programs is a holistic approach- what food are they eating, how much exercise are they getting, what level of structure or discipline is required of the dog in their home, and what is the relationship to their people? Sometimes all of these things need to change, sometimes only a few. Another consideration is you and your dog's previous training history- have you ever been through professional dog training or none at all? Previous training gives us a head start, but if a dog hasn't ever had a basic obedience program and is experiencing extreme behavioral issues, then we must begin at square one for any real rehabilitation to take place. This is why we offer multiple private, in-home training sessions with you once the dog returns, so that we can make sure things transfer as best they can and support you in your new journey with your dog. You guys have been incredibly dedicated and receptive, and we are positive they are going to make great strides. Thank you again for choosing us!

Claire is a hilarious trainer with serious talent. Personable, outgoing, and has the dogs best interest at heart. I would not hesitate to recommend her.

Claire is very knowledgeable about animals (not just dogs) and I trust her with all of ours (dogs, guinea pigs, rats). I have seen her in action as a pet professional and with her personal animals, and Claire definitely takes the extra steps to take care of her clients. Her prices are reasonable, and she is one of very few (like 3) people that I trust my pets with!

Thank you, Abbie! We love taking care of Daisy, Sadie, and the piggies. Next time, you better leave the chihuahua with us too for safe-keeping :)
