- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
ASID designers receive the most current information about appropriate materials, technology, building codes, government regulations, flammability standards, design psychology and product performance.To keep up with the unique needs of its members, ASID conducts independent research on topics related to the practice and business of the profession.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Choose someone to work with that your have a good fit with as far as personality and someone who you feel the most comfortable with. You may meet with a designer that has a great portfolio of work but if you don't feel at ease with them it doesn't matter how great the designer is. One way to ensure you are working with a professional interior designer is if he or she is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers. ASID member designers must meet the profession's education and experience requirements, as well as adhere to a strict code of ethics and professional conduct. The ASID appellation after a designer's name indicates that he or she is an accredited designer who has passed rigorous professional scrutiny and testing. When you hire an interior designer, you get the benefit of an experienced professional who can solve problems, help you avoid costly mistakes and, most importantly, create a space designed specifically to meet your needs.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Interior designers are not interior decorators. We do decorate but we also do a lot more. We understand building structure, we do architectural drawings either by hand or AutoCAD. We can provide complete drawings of a space, such as a bathroom or kitchen or room/house remodel, that can be submitted to get building permits. Professional designers belong to the American Society of Interior Designer (ASID). ASID promotes professionalism in interior design services and products for the workplace and home.
