Donna and her team provided superlative care of my dog and fish (and house for that matter) while my family and I were traveling out of the country. I will recommend Prima Donna Pet Services to others and I will most certainly use them again.

Our little 14-year old guy has problems with his back legs and because of this we were struggling with where to have him groomed. Then Nancy’s Shaggy to Chic Mobile Dog Grooming came to our rescue. We were able to have our guy groomed in the comfort and security of his own home. And Nancy was so kind and gentle with him. She talked to him throughout, calming his fears and giving him kisses and hugs. She even provided treats which he happily gobbled up! Nancy took her time with him – adjusting to his temperament – and transformed him from the shaggy guy he was to the chic guy he is. She provided the towels, all the equipment and the love. We only needed to provide a place to wash him. If you are looking for a professional groomer who really cares about you and your pet, we highly recommend Nancy’s Shaggy to Chic Mobile Dog Grooming. Couldn’t be happier.

Maria was on time, pleasant and polite. My dog is 13 yrs.old. She is blind and almost completely deaf. Maria treated my dog gently and was sensitive to her issues. I asked her to use the shampoo my Vet. recommended and Maria complied. I will use her services again in the future.

I was tired of my dog Nancy' behavior. I know she had all those behaviour problem because we all family members have been pampering her since we had her. We love her a lot but there is always a limit how long you can bear someone. She was totally out of control and we were warned to vacant the apartment because of her unnecessary barking, scratching and impulsiveness. We were totally hopeless when we contacted Nikhil and told him our problems. Nikhil hear us very patiantly and said dont worry. I will help Nancy to be a good pet. Honestly, I am surprised how someone can change a dog's behavior in just fifteen days just by instructing it some commands and actions. He made our life easy. We highly recommend nikhil for dog training.

Kim Thomas, owner and groomer of the Mobile Pet Spa, does an outstanding job on my two Persians. I would highly recommend her to any one who is interested in having their cat professionally groomed. I also enjoy the convenience of a mobile service, and my cats like not having to ride in the car to get groomer. The van is state-of-the-art iand provides a relaxing, safe environment and wonderful spa experience. I like the fact that Kim is a nationally certified feline groomer. I would highly recommend Kim to anyone interested in having their cat groomed.

I met KalI through a friend a couple of months ago after I had been looking for a good dog walker for some time. My dog Bub and myself met Kali in a park in Tarrytown. She is polite, well spoken and certainly was a natural with bub. She has been walking bub for a while now and I can say this. He's thrilled when she arrives and exhausted when she leaves. That's all I can ask for in a dog walker. I highly recommend her

what i liked most about best friends is the time they took to ease my nervous rescue’s anxiety. most won’t or can’t take the time to reassure a traumatized animal the way best friends did. they put her needs first, and it was a very positive experience for both of us! really caring people who love what they do!

Meghann B is awesome! She was able to accommodate my family's particular scheduling needs and had NO PROBLEM (what so ever) handling my 10 lb Papillon's recent total CCL tear. Meghann was patient, gentle and considerate of Noori dog's needs and mine. She gave Noori the neat and short cut I needed (in order to properly prepare him for his upcoming orthopedic surgery and recovery), and made him look his rock star best too! We have already scheduled our next appointment with Meghann (in 8 weeks) and hope that Noori dog will be well on his way to a total return to his happy, Pappy life by then. Thank you Meghann for your TLC in our difficult time...XXOOXX P.S. Noori's lack of tail hair is NONE of Meghann's doing...it is part of the dog attack injury that caused his CCL tear...he had the most beautiful Papillon plume until one month ago today!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What vaccines do dogs need to be groomed?

It’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on its vaccines before taking it to a groomer. Vaccinations keep your dog and the other dogs that use the establishment healthy. Viruses can linger long after a dog is gone, so an unvaccinated dog can infect a number of other dogs days or even months after their visit. Find out about your dog groomer’s vaccination policies, and think carefully about receiving services from a company that does not require vaccinations. Here are the main vaccinations that are generally required for dog grooming:

    • Parvovirus: Parvo is a nasty virus that can kill dogs within 48-72 hours of infection. The virus is incredibly persistent and, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, is resistant to heat, cold, humidity and drying. It’s spread by dog-to-dog contact or contact with contaminated feces, environments (food and water bowls, collars and leashes, etc.,) or people.
    • Adenovirus 2: Dogs receive this vaccination to protect against canine infectious hepatitis. The vaccination can also helps prevent canine cough.
    • Canine distemper virus: Distemper has no known cure and can cause serious pain, illness, and even death, although recovery is possible with medical intervention.
    • Rabies: This disease attacks the central nervous system and — when untreated — will
    • lead to death. The CDC recommends euthanizing an unvaccinated animal that has been exposed to rabies, although six-month isolation followed by vaccination is also permissible.
    • Para-influenza: Canine para-influenza leads to kennel cough and an unhappy dog.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
