Hi, my name is Lisa Carter and I am a Cher Tribute Artist/ Celebrity Impersonator. I have been in the tribute industry since 2009 and have worked diligently perfecting my craft to make this into my full time career. I have hired professional sound and light engineers, DJ's, dancers, musicians...the list goes on and on. Depending on what type of venue I am hired for, I am available with a live band or tracks for my gigs. Over the years I have hired less than competent dj's, until I feel upon Chris Hamel and his production company. He is my first choice, "go-to" guy who provides me with above standards in sound, lights, sound equipment....you name it, he's got it! He is also a musician, singer/ guitar player..so he "gets it"...in every sense of the phrase. I am passionate about my work, my shows, my costumes, my sound...and when he's running the soundboard, I know my show will excel to its highest potential. I feel extremely blessed to have him on my production team...in addition to that...he is always early for set-up, soundcheck, organized, and understands the mechanics of a tribute artist singing live and delivering only the best!! kudos to Chris Hamel for his professionalism and attention to details. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding specialist DJ...or anyone looking for a great soundperson who really cares about the end product.Overall experiences...is there anything ABOVE 5?,,,that's Chris Hamel.

We were invited to a wedding reception about a year ago and she was there as a solo artist doing easy listening backround music then when it came time for dancing she lit the room up with a great variety of 50's -current music so we went on line to look her up for an anniversary party we were planning and she was already booked for that night so were we lucky to push it back to the following Saturday when see was avail. This woman really knows how to entertain a crowd and is very easy on the eyes too!! After talking with her she also told us she tours with a 12 pc. horn band all over the country, I talked her into giving me their latest CD its great. If I were interested in vocal lessons I would definitely call her.

The O-Tones was our only choice for our commitment ceremony, with Mary Witt making it easy to contact and make arrangements. Their mix of R&B, Swing, Rock and Motown was perfect for our multi-generational guests. We stepped out of 21st century, sliding into the 1930’s then 40’s then 50’s, leaving our guests with at least one genre they fully enjoyed dancing to. We were pleased with the sound, the arrangement, and energy level that The O-Tones brought out in our quests. Mary appreciated that we were having a black tie event and beautifully/handsomely blended into the lovely setting at The Amherst Women’s Club. We have since seen The O-Tones play in other venues and continue to enjoy their sound, music, style and energy. You will be pleasantly surprised and pleased with your guests’ reaction.

Jonathan and his and band played at my birthday party.Omg, it was beautiful. My guests were wondering where I had heard them play and could not believe I just discovered them online. We had the dinner hour under such ambience, it felt like we were in an expensive lounge! If I need a band, I will definitely be calling Jonathan again!!! *Ps. I had a last minute request for an additional song and they made it happen!!

My son and I have been taking lessons with Lynn for 5 or 6 years now. She is very patient with younger students (& older students having "senior moments"). She is also flexible in her lessons in that if we want to work on theory, jazz, rock, blues, she will cater to our requests.

My husband and I were guests at a wedding for my friend's daughter and we thought Emotion was fabulous! They had energy, the lead female singer's voice was so true to the original artist's and the band was great! The music selection was also spectacular and I know they assisted with it. I'd see them again any day!

The Red Hots are RED HOT!! These girls and guys are absolutely great! Not only do they play my Breast Cancer fundraiser every year in NYC (under their Breast Cancer battling superpower name the Hot Pinks!) My wife and I hired them to play our wedding, they were a HUGE hit. Whether playing originals or covers the Red Hots rock.

I hired the New London Big Band for my weekly live Jazz event in Hartford, CT. Not only were they very professional, they played an excellent show. It was so great that one of my recurring customers told me it was the best time they have ever had at the event, and they have been a recurring customer of mine for more than 6 years. I would highly recommend the New London Big Band to anyone that is looking for a great live Jazz act for any occasion.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

  • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
  • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
  • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
