Marty has completed several projects for us in the past six years. Every one was expertly completed, on time, according to specifications. Marty's prices are very reasonable, his estimates accurate, and his workmanship excellent. He is exceptionally versatile. He can tackle almost anything, from carpentry to masonry, floor laying to plumbing, electrical to painting and pressure washing. Projects completed for us include the conversation of two bedrooms into a studio with kitchen, with a new vinyl floor and the addition of an outside/entry door; replace an existing single basin vanity with a two basin vanity, and new vinyl floor; remodeling our laundry room; pressure washing and painting the house exterior. Marty is an excellent, reliable and affordable all-rounder with a pleasant personality. We will request his services for any future project we might have. We recommend him highly. He is a jewel!

Jacques was friendly and a true professional. He was very helpful, even giving me a materials shopping list with the part numbers and prices. He did an outstanding job remodeling our bathroom. His price was very reasonable for all of the work he did. We are already planning for him to come back in the spring to replace our front door. I would highly recommend Jacques for your home repair.

Martin replaced a very difficult old faucet in our downstairs bathroom. He did more work then you would usually expect for faucet replacement but he stuck with his original reasonable quote. He went above and beyond and his work quality was excellent!! We’ll be hiring him again for other projects.

Carlos laid the new floor tile for our bathroom remodeling project. He understood the entire project - beyond just the tiling. He went the extra mile to provide his input on underlayment options and to undercut the door trim. He did a great job of matching the elevation of the hallway hardwood, which eliminated the need for a transom. I would hire him again.

I nearly went with the budget handy man hire for my bathroom remodel, and thank god I didn't. These guys and gals are a step above once it comes to professionalism and work quality. My bathroom remodel project went sideways when demolition turned into a nightmare scenario where the scope of the job had to have been expanded to remediate hidden problems lurking behind the walls. Luckily, Dimension does restoration and remodeling, and was able to get the job done efficienctly and PROPERLY. Not only am I happy with the quality in work, I am most greatful for everyone in the crew being able to explain options and procedures every step of the way. It's easy to be good when jobs are easy. It's better to use a company like Dimension if things end up not going as planned. Thank you to everyone at Dimension. I couldn't imagine working with anyone else.

We hired Bruce to remodel and update our bathroom, kitchen and to install washer and dryer hook ups in our 1920 Colonial. The project included new electrical, new drywall, building custom cabinets and doors as well as installing new plumbing. Bruce did not disappoint and the work was excellent and exceeded our expectations. It passed inspection with no problem and we are happy that our historical house now has modern ameneties such as a dishwasher, ceiling fan, and light timers. Bruce communicated with us every step of the way and always made sure to clean the work area (since we had to live in the house during the remodel). I would highly recommend Bruce again.

After owning our home for over 40 years we were finally ready to remodel the original 1956 master bathroom. We interviewed 4 other contractors before meeting with "For-U-Builders" who seemed to share our vision for transforming our obsolete bathroom into a masterpiece of timeless design combined with quality craftsmanship. Each member of their team, from the owner to the sub-contractors approached the job with professionalism and enthusiasm, along with the in-house coordinator who communicated almost daily with ordering & scheduling details, assuring that the project was well orchestrated from start to finish. We couldn't be happier with the results and feel fortunate to have had this firm complete our dream bathroom on time and at a reasonable (middle of the range) cost. We will surely be using them again for our future projects.

When you start thinking about remodeling your home you look for a trusted partner to help realize the wish-list as well as look out over the shoulders for the unexpected. with a full work schedule for self and wife, we also needed a one-stop shop for peace of mind execution. I found both readily available with Bharti and she was very quickly able to translate the wish lists into meaningful execution and design blocks. She was accomodative for late changes to design as well as for our schedules with after office drop-ins on updates and next steps. the best part of this experience was thoroughness and follow-through from Bharti with the parts, with the labor and generally with the project. We ended up demo and rebuilding our kitchen and completely transforming our basement. I am very happy with the end product and timelines and would definitely re-engage Bharti and team for subsequent projects

I chose Dakota Builders to make some major upgrades to my manufacturing facility prior to seeking ISO-9000 certification. This included remodeling seven offices and building a 2500 sf free standing enclosure for the Inspection Department. The shop area required several partition walls for air ducts, electrical outlets, etc. I explained to Kevin what I needed and he took care of everything including design, build, finish, and permits. Came out perfect. I would recommend Dakota Builders to anyone that asks.

I hired Mike from Goodman Building Company last year for several projects including a kitchen remodel, converting my three seasoned porch into a larger living room and dining room, and remodeling my main bathroom. I found Mike’s company really pays attention to the small details and took pride in their work. I was very pleased with the workmanship this company provided and even more importantly I found their pricing fair. I have just again hired this company to come do some smaller jobs around the house including new exterior doors and new attic stairs.

I had a bathroom from the 1970's complete with a blue tab and tile. All the tiles along the tub were falling out and leaking. I called Bathfitters, and they wanted an exorbinate amount to fix it. Tony came out and gave me some fantastic ideas. First of all, he suggested we retain the blue tub, which I wanted to do, and which makes the bathroom unique. Then he suggested a bring in a neutral wall tile, BUT add aborder of blue tile that would match the bathtub and bring the room together. He also quoted me for a new floor, painting the wall, installing a new toilet, and moving and reinstalling a heavy cabinet. He work was impeccable. He was always on time. He price was unbelievably less than Bathfitters to do all the work. He also did extra work, like personally refinishing some work along the border of the shower. He went out of his way to do an amazing job. I would highly recommend him for his attention to detail, creativity, and willingness to work with the client.

In early 2015 Laurene worked with me on a project to remodel my master bathroom and walk-in closets. Once the layout was established maximize the space, I was then presented with lovely options for all the fixtures. Any changes were addressed promptly with new options based on my taste. A date was chosen to start and her contractor and his assistants were prompt, efficient, and communicated very well…as Laurene does. As with all large projects, unexpected delays did occur, with unknowns hidden behind the walls. This was no surprise. Throughout the project all questions were addressed quickly, and with the help of Laurene, so were decisions. Laurene bases her decisions on the client’s taste, but adds a twist to enhance the final result. Her taste on how colors, textures, and furnishings all blend together to create a flow in the room is one of her great traits. The bathroom project turned out fabulously, and actually better than I expected.

Lobo Properties & Construction was very professional throughout my home renovation, the work completed was superb. In addition the price was great compared to other estimates that I have had. His response time was quick, within 24 hours he was on site and arrived early. Jeff completed many projects on our home consisting of a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom demolition. His crew was very professional throughout the process. After demolition he completed the remodel of my kitchen and bathrooms as well as new windows throughout the home. He then removed all the junk off the property and did a thorough cleanup of the site. Jeff listened to our ideas and gave us valuable alternatives that worked with our budget. Jeff was very personable and had amazing attention to detail, he went above and beyond with our project. Thank you for everything we will be using Lobo Properties &Construction again. Will recommend.

We had the pleasure of working with Mark Troiano from CJT Development to build our custom new house. He is everything you would want in your contractor. He made great suggestions and helped keep us stay within our budget. When we met with him to go over out blueprints he came back with ways we could save money and not lose the integrity of our dream home. He did an amazing job sticking to the time table that we discussed previous to starting our build. Mark does an amazing job of explaining the process of everything and stayed in constant contact with us throughout the entire project. He was always available to answer our questions whether it be in person, on the phone, text or email. Mark was always willing to help out where ever it was needed. He is hard working and honest and works with quality subcontractors. Our house came out beautiful and the quality is amazing. I would highly recommend Mark to do any project, and would hire him again in the Here is a link to our home on Houzz http://www.houzz.com/projects/1482269

I would gladly recommend Jon's work! Bel Air remodeled my kitchen and master bath, and the work is gorgeous. I couldn't be happier. Bel Air was also the most reasonably priced contractor I found after searching and interviewing several and taking many quotes. The most important piece to me is that Jon warrantees his work and replaced a faulty light switch for free when I called. That's peace of mind.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How do I remodel my bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If you’re competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase you’ll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time you’ll work together to order all the materials so they’ll be ready and waiting when it’s time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if you’ve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
