Hi, my name is Lisa Carter and I am a Cher Tribute Artist/ Celebrity Impersonator. I have been in the tribute industry since 2009 and have worked diligently perfecting my craft to make this into my full time career. I have hired professional sound and light engineers, DJ's, dancers, musicians...the list goes on and on. Depending on what type of venue I am hired for, I am available with a live band or tracks for my gigs. Over the years I have hired less than competent dj's, until I feel upon Chris Hamel and his production company. He is my first choice, "go-to" guy who provides me with above standards in sound, lights, sound equipment....you name it, he's got it! He is also a musician, singer/ guitar player..so he "gets it"...in every sense of the phrase. I am passionate about my work, my shows, my costumes, my sound...and when he's running the soundboard, I know my show will excel to its highest potential. I feel extremely blessed to have him on my production team...in addition to that...he is always early for set-up, soundcheck, organized, and understands the mechanics of a tribute artist singing live and delivering only the best!! kudos to Chris Hamel for his professionalism and attention to details. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a wedding specialist DJ...or anyone looking for a great soundperson who really cares about the end product.Overall experiences...is there anything ABOVE 5?,,,that's Chris Hamel.

My teenager had given up on the piano because he was sick of competitions. He now has finally found the joy of playing and composing music with his teacher Michael and is now interested in playing another instrument to complement piano.

I have seen Malorie's live performance with her band Soul Be It at Patchogue Theatre and her vocals and stage presence are outstanding. I honestly can say Malorie is one of the best vocalists on Long Island. I always recall that particular show where she opened for well known '70's Disco' artists. I really enjoyed her stage to audience connection. Malorie covers of a wide range of music genres including Disco, Funk, Motown and current dance tracks. Very impressive.

I had always wanted to learn how to play guitar ever since I could remember. I was a late starter- 23- before I finally decided to really give it an honest try. Andy convinced me at the very beginning that it's never too late to start and his students were of all ages- children to adult, so I had nothing to worry about. His continuous encouragement was one of the reasons I stuck through the harder beginning lessons when I was struggling. He was extremely patient and would make sure to keep the classes entertaining and upbeat, so that even learning the basics was fun. It's easy to get the "beginner's blues" and quit early if you don't catch on right away, but he pushed me through it until I got the hang of it- and had me laughing the whole way. As I began to improve and could start to experiment more, Andy was great about changing the curriculum to meet my wants and needs. He always made sure to make me practice the basics of course, but we made sure to balance it with songs and music that I personally loved and wanted to play. I would choose the 'extra' books to bring in and often even brought in sheet music of popular songs. If the song was too complicated for my musical level, he would find a way to make it work and break it down for me to learn. Overall, Andy was the best music teacher I've ever had and I've played a variety of instruments over the years. His positive attitude and genuine love of music makes the experience that much better. I would highly recommend him for anyone in any range because he's very good at what he does. If you want to learn how to play guitar, he'll make it happen.

Lomel is more than just another singer. He's a true artist. He's a force for change in an industry that's missing so much. He fills several voids in the music world. He can sing, rap, write and tell the stories that touch our lives. His passion, skill, voice and work ethic can not be matched. He is truly one of a kind. Lomel is not only a phenomenal artist but a movement and a force to be reckoned with. Lomel is the future.

My husband and I were guests at a wedding for my friend's daughter and we thought Emotion was fabulous! They had energy, the lead female singer's voice was so true to the original artist's and the band was great! The music selection was also spectacular and I know they assisted with it. I'd see them again any day!

Joni Lambert takes the stage and immediately the audience is captivated, whisked away into the wonderful world of Barbara Streisand. She looks so much like Streisand, complete with Donna Karan gown, that matches one that Barbara is known for. The dialog and jokes are also authentic and represents Streisand with accuracy and respect. Joni Lambert's vocal abilities will blow you away, she takes no short cuts, sings all out and sounds just like Streisand, even as complex as Streisand’s vocals are, Joni Lambert pulls it off effortlessly. I heard people ask her if she was lip syncing, she does not, and in her own voice, live on the spot, she sounds just like the recordings. I watched as the audience was memorized and quickly engaged with her as if they were actually with Streisand, standing ovation and all. After the performance Joni Lambert took the time to meet and be photographed with everyone who approached her. I highly recommend attending a show or booking her for an event.

Rolled the dice here on thumbtack and could not be happier with my decision. Pete is an excellent instructor with a massive knowledge of his craft. He's a totally normal guy and comes right to my house once a week for an hour. Im more of an intermediate player trying to get into some more advanced theory, jazz/blues and improvisational stuff, and the curriculum that he is laying out is totally perfect, but I can tell that he would also be equally clear and efficient on any level of instruction. He makes the material relatable, logical and easy to grasp, and focuses on a real musical approach rather than monotonous drilling of scale patterns and note names. On the first day he brought me a notebook that we have been building on and writing more and more into as the weeks progress, so i always have everything laid out in front of me for practice. He also allows the sessions to be recorded on my laptop so i can go back to review things we discussed, which i have found very helpful in conjunction with the notebook. He really helps me think about things in ways that make sense and i can feel my level of understanding skyrocketing with each practice session, growing more each day for sure. Whether you are just starting out and want a clear concise path to playing, or you've been playing for years and want to push yourself to the next level and truly understand music and the guitar, i would highly advise giving this guy a call. I highly doubt you will regret it, i sure dont.

Mr. Marcel Blanchet, Mr. Lonnie Gasparini and Mr. Paul Gabriel performed their extraordinary blues with style for us at our graduation party. I was fortunate to be able to book them. These men are serious musicians -- each with an impressive curriculum vitae of playing at major venues and with world-renowned artists over the years. They turned our pool party into a blues festival! They arrived right on time, set up their own lighting and sound system very quickly and professionally, were open to playing inside our home in case it rained, and were extremely helpful with suggestions on how to configure the dancing area in tent and outside on our driveway. They were accommodating regarding requests. They were extremely professional and yet friendly. They got everyone up and dancing, and all evening I heard nothing but compliments about their sound. They played a perfect mix of original pieces with classic selections, and the combination of percussion, Hammond organ and lead guitar was perfect! Their intuition was right on as to what to play to keep the party lively. My husband and I felt proud to treat our guests to an evening of excellent blues in our own backyard! I would recommend these gentlemen to anyone who's looking to create a fabulous blues party experience. Kind thanks for everything, Marcel and the band! We will try to book you again for our next event!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
