About
"Illusion has triumphed, and so has Michael Graham, who gives life at least momentarily to the most improbable cast of characters." - The New York Daily News.
The Spring Valley Puppet Theater has been performing for schools and libraries throughout New England for over 30 years. Each performance combines delightfully original scripts, appealing characters, beautifully handcrafted hand and rod puppets, lighting, music and humor. The result is highly entertaining puppet theater.
A highlight of each library program is an informative and exciting behind-the-scenes look at the technique and artistry used in puppet theater, including a demonstration of favorite characters.
In most school assembly performances, the front curtain is removed and students are invited to explore the art of puppetry through an insightful and absorbing question and answer period. A wonderful educational experience!
The productions include the following:
* Jack and the Beanstalk - 1994 UNIMA award recipient
* The Three Wishes
* The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
* The Lazy Fox/El Zorro Perezoso - bilingual
* Puss in Boots
* A Holiday Fantasy

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Spring Valley Puppet Theater provides all equipment needed, including puppet stage, sound system and lighting.
The puppet theater needs an indoor floor area 12' to 20' wide by 6' deep with a 10' ceiling height. A 9' ceiling height can be accommodated if there are no ceiling obstructions, such as lighting fixtures, beams, etc., within the performance area.
It is best if the puppet stage can be set up on floor level, rather than on a raised platform., A true auditoriums with raked seating and stage is the exception.
The audience should be seated at least 10' away from the puppet stage in order to see properly. Floor seating is best.
A room which can be darkened is preferable.
Setup time is two hours to two hours and fifteen minutes, depending on show. Take down time is one hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and thirty minutes depending on show.
Factors that complicate the load in and load out, such as elevators and stairs, extend those times. The number of stairs must be minimal.
Equipment is normally rolled in on dollies that I provided.
An electrical outlet close to the performance area is necessary.
