Introduction: Whether you're advanced or a beginner, young or old, I adjust to where you are and what you like to play. The most exciting thing about teaching piano to someone at the beginner or intermediate level is helping them with the hardest part of reading music: rhythm notation. I use several tricks for doing this. Teaching advanced or professional students involves tweaking fine points of technique when needed and delving into visual imagery and performance psychology. I create a safe space where you make mistakes while developing accuracy with a sense of freedom. I get to do what I love to do with people who want to know what I've learned. When I see their success, it makes me happy.

Francisco P.

I have known Ms. Huffman for over thirty years, during which we have collaborated in developing lyrics and translating them to various languages. She has always been resourceful and responsible, combining to an unusual degree creativity, flexibility and considerateness. I have no reservations in recommending her as both a teacher and as a performer.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My base rate is $70/hr ($80/hr for in-home lessons). See "Lesson Fees" on my website: gloriamerlehuffman.musicteachershelper com lesson-fees

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first lesson is a get-acquainted session in which each of us develops a feel for the other's personality. That determines how we'll interact. I always assess a piano or voice student's level and ask what types of music are preferred. In order to be sure the foundation is laid for the type of visual work I emphasize at the piano, I work on and assign some elementary keyboard visualization exercises, no matter what the student's level is. This is to ensure that we'll be speaking the same language regarding keyboard patterns, which are critical for my approach to teaching music theory. Composition sessions are more free-flowing, but with structured guidance and exercises to match the student's abilities.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My website home page has a summary of my musical training: gloriamerlehuffman.musicteachershelper com
