I decided to select EBRR prop cleanup after reading some positive reviews from other restaurant operators who needed construction post cleaning. Also, since they are locally owned small business compared to a national francise. The admin Ed bilo when we set the initial appointment for estimate and inspection. The project lead was Luis one of the general managers. Our Indian restaurant had severe dust buildup on the hvac lines and wires which needed to be cleaned. The cleaning took a full day with four cleaners for our 8000 square foot place. There was no dilly dallying and everyone was working the entire time and Ed showed up later to make sure that all the tasked had been completed. I have already scheduled them to come sanitize our kitchen on a monthly basis.

José arroces on time to clean my air ducts. He also cleaned vents and drier duct. Some duct work was hanging that he fixed quickly at no charge. I have an old unit and thermostat at the house I just bought,I guess the cleaning shorted some wire out because the Ac didn't work when he was done. He immediately called a hvac tech and ensured everything was working before he left. Jose is a very knowledgable professional who takes pride in his work. He was quick to respond, no hidden charges, and fairly price. I would recommend his services to anyone and will be turning to him first for any others jobs I need.

Great technician . He came an hour's drive from DC on a Saturday and fixed my ailing refrigerator in no time. Then I mentioned that the ice maker wasn't working either.. He actually had the part on his truck and fixed the ice maker, too! Hacked can fix anything. HVAC washers, Dryers, dishwashers ranges.. He is incredible, fast and knows his stuff. The only complaint I have is that he doesn't charge enough!

Air Ducts did not make the lowest bid among the bidders. I chose Air Ducts because the Contractor was honest. As a customer, I need to keep honest people make a living and remain honest. Some of the bidders did not even make the first cut due to the smell of dishonesty when incorrect assumption hypes and fears are pumped up to scare customers to force them. As a matter of fact some of them may have been dishonest to the dangerous edge of committing potential crimes by trying to secure the parts under warranty and turning around to charge customers with high mark ups. So be aware. Air Ducts did NOT obtain customers by luring customers with lies. I can attest to the honesty of this provider. Honest customers need to honor honesty to allow good competent honest and excellent provider to stay in business. Air Ducts stood out because of this practice. Evert and Edy are excellent in their work. I highly recommend Air Ducts to any potential customers. Thumbtack does bring people together. I will also rate Air Ducts on Yelp so honest people can help one another. Air Ducts repaired the TXV and Evaporator coil for my A/C unit. I can rattle out other unethical HVAC providers on here but I believe the higher up authority will flush them out eventually.

David and his helper did a great job providing maintenance to our air handler. He chemically cleaned our blower wheel and took at look at the entire HVAC system. He will come back in the Spring when it's warmer to complete work on the outdoor unit. David is friendly and very knowledgeable, and I found his prices competitive. I would certainly hire again.

I had Gomez help me with some HVAC work in my bathroom. We needed to move a air vent from the floor to the ceiling due to a bathroom remodel. He was Fantastic. I would recommend him to any friend or family member. He was on time. Price was great. He explained what he was going to do and executed everything on time. Seeing as how I live in an old Arlington house, we of course uncovered issues along the way and he was able to still complete the job without jacking up the price. I cannot say the same for other contractors that I have worked with in the past. If you need Heating and AC work done in your home, call Gomez. He is a great professional.

Working with Salvation LLC was a wonderful experience. Ernesto and his team are outstanding. In fact, Ernesto found a creative solution to my HVAC/water heater issue that several other HVAC companies had not even considered. The finished installation was beyond my expectations; pre-installation preparation and post-installation cleanup could not have been better. I have had HVAC/water heater work done in the past but Salvation's work was superior to all of these other companies. The work was done at a reasonable price in a timely manner and Ernesto made sure that I understood all that would be involved in the installation. I highly recommend Salvation! I have already scheduled some additional HVAC work with Salvation and they will absolutely be my go-to HVAC company going forward :-)

Brian was great to work with. He completed the project (replacing a rooftop HVAC unit in DC) on schedule and was great with communication leading up to the project. His pricing was competitive with other vendors and he offers a two year annual tune-up service and labor warranty with installation (most other vendors only offered one year or less). Brian also repaired an issue with the inside furnace unit at no additional cost to ensure the overall system would work at peak performance for years to come. I've since recommended him to several of our neighbors.

I highly recommend Nexgen Home Services, a company that exemplifies customer service. For me, honesty is the most important trait when selecting a company to perform any type of work at your home. Nexgen was professional, on-time, and they diagnosed my air conditioning issue and fixed it the same day. I was provided with up front and fair pricing, and the whole time I knew that my interests were considered. I will now be using Nexgen for all of my future HVAC needs, and if you are reading this, you should too.

I absolutely love this company!! We have been customers for years and we always get the best service. They did their best to help up get through the last 2 summers with our old, 30 years old furnace and when it finally came time to replace it, Chris Cheng worked with me in detail, step by step, answering every question, customizing a package just right for us. From the 1st appointment until the complete installation and the follow up, their technicians, especially Mike Hudson went above and beyond what I was expecting to make sure everything is done right and we are comfortable in our own home. I would recommend Nice Home Services to anyone that is looking for an HVAC technician... They really do make you feel like they have your best interest at heart and they will do everything they can to accommodate you. I really can't say enough good things about them.. I am serious guys, look no further, this company is amazing!! I will be a customer for life..

I am beyond happy with the service I received from Nash and his team. He was always responsive and professional and he responds to either texts (best for me) or calls. The freon was low in my HVAC. I had always assumed that freon could be used up but Nash explained to me that freon would exist for the life of the product if there isn't a leak and I should consider getting the leak in my system repaired (After some research (trust but verify) I was blown away. No one had ever mentioned this to me and only offered to refill the freon(obviously I educated all of my friends). He gave me a detail breakdown of the cost and let me decide whether I wanted to repair the leak but told me if I decided not to do the repair I would need a refill again in a year or two. The tech that came to my house was very professional and explained everything in detail. I like to see things for myself and he had no problem showing me what was going on. The price they charged me was very reasonable. I'm rather cheap so I wasn't blown away but I knew it was a very fair price for all the work they performed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
