I called Dr. Helgeson after receiving her initial quote on Thumbtack. She answered all of my questions thoroughly and was always patient with me whenever I asked questions because I wanted to ensure I had the best writer to rewrite my resume. Dr. Helgeson was prompt with my resume and the quality is a huge difference of what I had before. I look forward to applying this resume for my new career and I thank Dr. Helgeson for all of her help!

Amenah has been an indispensable component of some of my best work throughout my bachelor and masters degrees. Even if the subject matter is obscure, she is able to quickly understand the point I was trying to get across and help me find the most strategic, well-organized pathway to get my point across to the reader. Importantly, she takes into consideration the audience you are writing for (whether academic, journalistic, grant agencies, etc.), helping you tailor the form and delivery of your writing. Amenah is not only a skilled grammatical editor. She is able to work with my style of writing, not against it, making me a better writer with each project she assists on. Her personable nature and common sense way of talking me through even the most complex subject matter helps me organize my thoughts and arguments, making any writing task seem far less daunting. I would HIGHLY recommend working with Amenah.

Mr. Bromley is a highly organized individual that uses a variety of tools to help my daughter achieve her goals, study habits and now she is an A student. I like the fact that he listened to the problems my daughter was having and implemented a plan specifically for her issues. Mr. Bromley is extremely motivated, helpful, intelligent, witty and very easy to converse with. My child felt very comfortable speaking with him and his staff who are friendly and forthcoming. You will not find a better educator to guide and assist your child. I would highly recommend him for your tutoring needs.

I had the opportunity of working with Kevin. I have found his reviews and remarks to be thought provoking. Often as we write, we do not place ourselves in the shoes of the readers. Kevin considers the tone and platform of the writer as well as the reader and makes his recommendations on how the writer can improve their work. I would call him the antibiotic of editing. He works his way through the literature and diagnose those issues and prescribe a remedy to correct the issues. I would highly recommend him. Thanks Dr. Raymond Holmes, GCDF

Yolanda was a a pleasure to work with. She has the ability to put your thoughts into proper grammatical form. Why pay outrageous prices when Yolanda can do the same for a fraction of the price? Plus your cpa can write it off as a tax related work expense.

Jackie was my editor at WatchdogWire.com, a citizen journalism site run by the Franklin Center for Public Integrity for three years. I was a state editor, and Jackie was the managing editor for the site as a whole. She was a great pleasure to work with. Normally the jobs of editing for copy, clarity, and journalistic quality would be separated into three separate positions, but Jackie handled them all. In addition, as assignment editor, Jackie routinely suggested quality stories for state editors and reporters to follow up on .

Jocelyn is very clear, flexible, and easy to work with. I'm in graduate school and was needed help following the current APA guidelines. She is fast but effective. She is fantastic at editing help and will work with you either online, or on the phone, we are in different time zones but she was quite accommodating. I recommend this professional with all your writing or editing needs.

Kim has always been an exceptional writer. She had edited a few writing pieces for me including personal statements and essays. Her commentary has always pushed me to think outside of the box and she always found a way to help me express my thoughts eloquently. Not to mention she is very punctual and responds quickly. I will always go to her for my editing services!

Stacia did a superb job for me, crafting a letter regarding a very delicate situation. I'm a writer - a professional writer, but I knew that my emotions would negatively impact any attempt to communicate to the said party. I hired IHTMFYW. In 24 hours, I had a well-crafted, honest and insightfully-written letter that captured the key elements I wanted to highlight while maintaining a compassionate undertone. I highly recommend this service to anyone who is seeking "just the right words" for situations that need it most.

Mrs. Abagail Adams definitely revitalized my stale resume. She took the time to review my previously written resume's and cover letters and tailored my both my resume and coverletter to fit a variety of instructional designer jobs. She went through several revisions, and was very detail oriented, keeping me very informed throughout the process. I am looking forward to using my newly revamped resume to apply to my dream job, and graciously thanking Mrs. Adams for her help throughout this process! Alia

I worked with Ms. Wilson on a stage production that she wrote and directed with a cast of 30+. Needless to say she is a gifted writer and director and the performance was packed to capacity each night. As a Blog writer, her content is engaging and heartwarming. As a performer, her enriching spirit and bright smile draws you in, eager to cozy up to a familiar friend hanging on to every word that is spoken.

I've spoken and worked with a great deal of so called SEO and online marketing experts for a line of businesses and have heard it all. NOVA Advertising however, is different. They are honest, and straight forward and provide you with a deeper understanding of online marketing elements, rather than repeating the same garbage the other companies spew. NOVA Advertising developed a website for me, with full SEO components, and a comprehensive marketing strategy, based on our needs. The site started bringing in traffic and sales from the start! We are now working together on our next project. We are using NOVA for content development, email marketing, user experience design suggestions, and social media.

Over the years, I've had the good fortune of reading various works written by Ms. Jones. I found her work to be stellar. She is a very competent writer with a knack for great detail, a quality that is much needed in proofreading and editing. She is a writer with passion, drive, and is extremely creative, "painting the canvas" with her words. As a published author myself, I absolutely enjoy Ms. Jones work, and have no doubt that she would be an asset to you and your organization.

When I first was contacted from Whitney, I had never gone through an experience with hiring someone from thumbtack before. And I also really needed a new resume and cover letter and so I decided to go for it, and I was not disappointed in the least. Whitney was extremely prompt in her replies, extremely dedicated and a very good writer as well. I'm so proud of the work she did for me I am probably a live promoter now. Whitney and I had long conversations on specific details, she was very open to suggestions and feedback, and even when I lost my motivation for completing it, she helped me push forward and I'm really happy she did. I never would have been able to do what she did and I would absolutely hire her again. Not only for the work she did, but just how professional and sincere she was.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
