About
My 40 years of experience performing and teaching allow me to understand what each students needs to take them to where they want to be in their musical journey. From the most basic beginner to the serious enthusiast, my techniques of helping people to understand the guitar have brought a great deal of satisfaction to hundreds of folks over the years. Revealing the joys of musical performance to people is an amazing opportunity for which I'm deeply grateful.

Peter is a phenomenal teacher. He will adapt his instruction style according to your needs and desires; he is patient but encourages you to be your best; he is affable and makes lessons enjoyable; and he truly cares about your progress. He knows everything there is to know about the guitar (e.g., music theory, playing styles, history) but will not overwhelm you with information if you don't want it, but will incorporate as much knowledge as you wish to gain. He has expertise in certain areas but I told him that I wanted to be like Taylor Swift and he was more than willing to help me achieve that goal. Whether you want to learn basic chords and impress your friends, or you want to work systematically through methods books, or you want to become a devoted classical guitarist, Peter is your man. I can't speak highly enough of Peter.

Pete is an outstanding teacher with a fine grasp of both music theory and performance. He tailored his lessons to my learning goals and was able to adapt his teaching style to what I needed to improve. My lessons with Pete greatly improved my playing, my understanding of music theory and my love for music. He is a wonderful teacher and I heartily recommend him for anyone interested in moving beyond the basic chords and understanding how music and the guitar really work. Cheers, J in VA

I had barely ever picked up a guitar in 2012. With Peter's instruction over the past few years, I am now comfortable with complex solo Brazilian jazz pieces. Thanks, Peter!

My son has been taking guitar lessons for several years from various teachers but it wasn't until he started with Peter that his guitar playing technique really took off. Peter is an outstanding guitar player and teacher. He and my son have a great rapport and my son leaves every lesson telling me how much he's learned and it motivates him to practice even more. I highly recommend Peter as a teacher to guitar students of any age.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My basic fees are $40 for a half hour lesson, $50 for 45 minutes and $60 for an hour. I give a discount to 35, 45 and 50 if students pay for 4 lessond at a time.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I begin with eacg new student by talking about what music they like, what their goals are and exploring their process for learning. Not everyone learns the same way, so I work very carefully to find the approach that each student feels comfortable with.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I studied guitar and music composition at St, Mary's College of Md. and classical guitar with David Perry. As a professional who has earned his living through performing and teaching for over 35 years, my experience is a very effective guide to students in any style.
