FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am required to have 20 hours of continuing education per year to maintain my license. Typically, I am attending 80-100 hours of educational seminars, workshops, and experiential training in any given year to stay abreast of all the developments in the field and to hone my skills. My website also lists the professional presentations that I have made: aida-therapy.com/about/aboutrw.html
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Take the time to choose the right therapist for you. I think there are three main things to look for in a therapist: Licensing, Proficiency and Chemistry. Licensing: Check with your state or local licensing board to ensure the practitioner has a license to practice psychotherapy. I practice with an LICSW license from the District of Columbia. This means that I have achieved the highest level of licensing available and may practice independently. Proficiency: Every licensed provider has demonstrated a minimum level of education and experience, according to state standards. Most therapists also have areas in which they specialize. You will want to ask your potential therapist about the status of her/his license, her/his experience and approach to treating your particular problem or issue. Chemistry: Once you feel satisfied that your therapist has the right expertise, then it becomes a matter of fit between yourself and your therapist. Some questions you might want to ask yourself are: Do I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts? Are they attentive to what I am saying? Are they responsive to my phone calls and requests for information or documentation? Do I feel like I am getting what I need?
