Hello, I am Lyon. I began playing when I was eight years old, and started USTA competition when I was ten. My highest place in junior tennis was fourth in DC and thirty-second in the Mid-Atlantic in 1983. I attended Bullis High School from 1981-1983, and was a fellow member of the 1982 National Championship tennis team, that is in the Bullis Hall of Fame. I was rated a 5.5-6.0 player at the ATP Tennis Center located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL about 10 years ago. I have got and can instruct any shot in the book. My style in teaching focuses on achieving excellent footwork (for balance), which will lead the student to find out how to employ their body to generate the power in their shots. I've been teaching part time for more than 20 years. I'm comfortable teaching any level of player. Depending on the level of the student, with beginners to intermediate players, I start with around 5 minutes of short court to have an idea of what their footwork is like and their ability to control the ball. If the player is not good enough to hold a rally, I'll give them balls, forehand for ten minutes (cross court then down the line), then similar for the backhand and form a proper technique in the ground stroke to improve their game. I teach everything. I feature every shot in the book. In my spare time, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, swimming, running, playing tennis, mountain biking, basketball, and soccer.(show more)

I coach kids, juniors and adults tennis. I have an experience in tennis for 28 years as a professional player and coach with remarkable results. I am focused on coaching technique on very small details to perfection, coordination on the court, emotional toughness, detailed strategy for the matches, tennis fitness, and after. We always have fun during lessons, and at the end of the practice, my students go home happy that they learned a lot. Finally, the most important of all is that my students stay always positive to learn more each time they practice with me. I teach them to fight to be better, be focused all the time, ask questions, have fun while working hard, and love the game. Those are very important for success in tennis and life.(show more)

Tennis has always played an important role in my life and it's very rewarding to help grow the sport of tennis by making it easier for the average player to find high quality, affordable instruction.
Back in 2008, Play Your Court's CEO and founder, Scott Baxter, was a tennis professional at a private country club just outside of Washington D.C. Constant demand for instruction from the non-country club crowd pushed him to take on some of these players himself, but as word spread, he soon learned the demand was much greater than he had originally thought. It started out small, with 3 professionals only covering parts of D.C. and Montgomery County. Now, there are over 100 professionals across the nation, and it's growing daily.
