Ruby D. says, "We had the absolute pleasure of having DMV Cater serve our anniversary celebration, and they exceeded every expectation. Yes, the food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and hardworking—but what truly set DMV Cater apart was their ability to go above and beyond in every way. From the start, Jamie (DMV Cater owner) and her team arrived early to help prepare not only the food but also the party space itself. She worked closely with us, offering thoughtful ideas that transformed the space and set the perfect atmosphere for our event. Throughout the day-long celebration, which transitioned seamlessly from lunch to dinner, Jamie and her team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything flowed effortlessly. The attention to detail was unmatched—dishes were constantly replenished, nothing ever sat empty, and when our vegetarian options began running low, Jamie went the extra mile by personally going to the store, purchasing fresh ingredients, and preparing additional dishes on the spot. That kind of dedication is rare, and it did not go unnoticed by us or our guests, who shared countless compliments about both the food and the overall experience. Jamie not only delivered outstanding service and cuisine but also took the time to quickly build a warm relationship with us, truly understanding our vision for the day and delivering beyond what we imagined. We wholeheartedly recommend DMV Cater and would not hesitate to invite them back for any future occasion. They turned our special day into an unforgettable experience!"See more

I love bantering and talking with people, and mixology just makes it so much easier for people too loosen up and have a good time. I also like to make people laugh, it just makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable and memorable. It is not what you say or what you do but how you make people feel is what makes the experience one to remember. I feel I can make people feel at ease, be jovial and a jokester, this helps people relax and have a good time. I have 15 years experience in the field, and have a broad spectrum of events and places I have worked. I now work at Seasons 52 restaurant in Columbia, MD. I also work for the Redskins at their home games at FEDEX Field. I have worked at many weddings and other events at Martins West and Martins Crosswinds. I also have done many private parties with some local celeberties, including Pat McGrath, former Fox News 5 anchor, as well as Megan McGrath who works for NBC News 4. I just love talking with people and finding out what they do or where they have traveled. I also like to make jokes and make people laugh. Mixology has always been a passion for me. I think it just makes everything festive and a good time is about to be had. I love also the art of mixolgy and the different drinks out there they can be made, and the satisfaction when the person just loves your drink. Instantaneous gratification.See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a bartender for a private party?

Hiring a bartender for a private party typically costs between $270 and $390 in total. On an hourly basis, expect to pay at least $40 to $60 per hour, as well as a flat fee. How much you’ll pay, however, depends on the time of year or day, the size of the party and other factors. Get in touch with a few bartenders near you and request a free estimate — it’s the only way to get an accurate idea of how much private bartending services will cost you.

Check out “How much does it cost to hire a bartender?” to learn more about the cost factors.

Do bartenders need to be licensed?

Certain counties, cities and states may require licensing. Check your local government’s regulations before starting your search.

In many cases, you might want to choose a bartender who has a license and/or certification. If you’re considering hiring a bartender for an upcoming event or a special occasional, check their online profiles to find out what credentials they have. If you can’t find the information online, don’t hesitate to ask them directly when requesting to receive free estimates.

How do I find a good bartender?

Put some time on your calendar to research and compare top-rated bartenders near you online. Start by looking at their ratings and services. For example, some bartending services will provide a waitstaff, glassware, ice, coolers, food and more.

Next, look at their photos of past events and read the customer reviews. Find feedback on the bartenders’ services. Did they offer fair pricing? Did they show up on time to set up? Did they bring all of the appropriate drinks, cups, supplies and decorations? Did they interact politely with the party guests and provide a pleasant overall experience? And did they do the agreed-upon cleanup afterward?

Narrow down your top choices, and start contacting the bartenders. Ask for cost estimates for your event, and tell them how many people will be attending, what type of event it is and what services you require. You should also ask them questions about their experience.

Bartenders may need a license in your state, county or city to work at a private party. Make sure they’re properly certified before you hire anyone.
