I believe that a resume should be reflective of an individual’s professional experience but should also include those distinctive aspects of one’s background. Hence, I usually have a conversation with my clients to listen for the “golden nuggets” that I can highlight that they may have not even thought to include within their resume. This ensures that my client’s resume will stand out aesthetically and substantively and get more than a mere glance from a hiring manager. I enjoy the reaction I get from individuals after they have reviewed their final resumes. People often minimize and omit their distinctive qualities/experiences from their resumes. However, when a revised resume includes these unique components, and their professional background “comes alive”, people often acquire newfound confidence that they can get the job they want and often do!
