We had a leak in a copper pipe in our baseboard heating - but it happened on New Years Eve. We called the big names that advertise 24/7 emergency service, Horizon and Roto-Rooter, and neither had anyone to send. So those ads are false. Desparate as we were, we stumbled across Thumbtack, posted our problem, and within minutes received a reply from Phil. He offered to come that night to at least turn off the water and return to fix in the morning. This despite his living 30 minutes from us. We decided to wait (we needed to keep the heat on) and stayed up all night dumping water. Next day, Phil showed up on time, saw the problem and gave us a fixed price for the job before starting. We thought the price was reasonable (because we've used many plumbers before for other leaks) and accepted. Phil did a fantastic job. He was probably at our house for 5 hours. He didn't leave until everything was just so - purging air from our lines so the heat would work better.
I can't say enough good things - he was a life saver. I doubt we would have found anyone to come New Year's Day, and if we did, we would have been charged through the roof.
Thanks Phil - Happy New Year! Best of Luck.
