i have had allen do a number of odd jobs around my house and he always knows just what to do and how to fix it. he installed a storm door on an old door frame, installed a new faucet in the kitchen, and i intend to get him back to fix the gutters and drainage in the front of the house. i've known him a long time and he is one of the most knowledgeable, dedicated, and honest all-around guys i have ever been around. he's the one i am calling if i need something done or fixed around my house.

Paul did a great job on such sort notice. The upper level gutters were clogged and he was able to ensure good drainage would be achieved. Thank you, PAUL!

Omg! I have hot water again thanks to rich@ Go-Pro. Very professional and reasonable. He explained the issue thoroughly and waited on my electric to come. He has been hired to returned for my bath drainage issue and outside leak. He is alright to be a giants fan! Go cowboys! 😄

I was fully prepared to have a new exterior sliding door installed. Paul succeeded in fixing the drainage problem I was having with it by clearing a passageway for the water accumulation problem. He saved me a good $1500 in less than an hour. Since the water was leaking into the house, Paul came the same day I called. I will be making another appointment with him next week to install a new storm door.

My driveway drainage problem took a little longer than expected, but no fault of Tony's as the part required to complete the job was out of stock throughout the state. Otherwise Tony and his guy (sorry, I can't recall his name) did an excellent job. I'll definitely call him again if the need should arise and would highly recommend him to others.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
