Tommy was very responsive and contacted me quickly to provide an estimate for my tree removal. The price was very reasonable. His crew came out the very next day & had the tree removed within 2-3 hours. Everyone was very professional & they hauled everything away....didn't even leave any twigs or leaves behind. I highly recommend this company. They did a great job on a very difficult project which included the removal of a tree that was growing into my roof, covering my entire house, and had major issues with accessibility. Rates were more than reasonable. They went above and beyond the scope required. Do yourself a favor and use this company.

Nick Guyett and his crew were absolutely superb! After receiving 4 reasonable to great quotes from tree removal services that were most professional, Nick - like he advertised - beat the lowest quote by $100. This was for the removal of 4 major oak trees, one of which was over 100 yrs. old. (Yes, Hurricane Irma struck hard!) In addition, he added a number of additional services to his initial job detail, e.g. tree shaping, vine removal, etc. Our recent experience with Nick leads us to believe that he is the finest tree removal service in the Tampa Bay area. Hire him; you will be pleased beyond measure. - Patrick Meighan Retired Professor Florida State University (1974-2016)

The service we received from Moore Cuts was fantastic! Matthew came out, and we walked about our property. We told him our intentions of what needed to get done as quickly as possible. He made several suggestions, and we made our decisions based on that. Matthew and his crew worked diligently all day. When the worked was completed, the yard was cleaned up with no brush/branches left behind. The price was very fair, and we plan on hiring them again for another big job. We highly recommend hiring them for your tree removal needs. Thank you Team Moore Cuts!

We had a huge oak tree uproot during hurricane Irma. We had the tree cut up and a half baked job done on the stump by another contractor who I will never use again. Bryan and his partner came to our home and took care of our underground stump and roots quickly and completely! They did it for an absolutely great price as well. I can highly recommend him. Book early as his services are in great demand.

We have a fairly large front, side and back yard. Michael came out to my house to give me a quote. His monthly price was very reasonable and included an initial clean up of the yard (stick/leaf clearing, trimming hedges, edging, etc). After the consult, I scheduled my first service the following week. I was very impressed with the job Michael did and the care and precision he used. He spent a good 3 (or more) hours here and our lawn(s) look awesome! Highly recommend.

It was a real pleasure meeting Luis and his team. Luis is "old school" and, if he tells you something, he stands by it. I knew right off that he had a lot of integrity because he called me to let me know that he was running a little late but was on his way. He believes, as I do, that when you tell someone you'll be there at a given time, you should make every effort to fulfill that promise. Unfortunately, not all businesses operate like that anymore. They worked hard to complete my tree trimming and "big bird" removal. Before leaving, they cleaned (blew, raked, etc.) all areas. I am very satified with their services and highly recommend them. Josh was very professional, punctual and did a great job in trimming and cleaning up trees, removing debris and going above and beyond. I will definitely be using him in the future. As you can see, the trees and patio were quite the mess. The area and fence is all cleaned up. Heck, I didn't even know I had a BBQ Grill under all that mess. I've tipped the table to remove it. Hope you can view photos and see what a great job. Josh cut and hauled off all debris and there was a lot. Thanks, Josh!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
