It was a pleasure having Mr.Kessler train our German shepherd puppy. You can tell he truly has a passion for dogs and bettering their relationship with their owners. In our first session, our pup has shown much better focus, along with an obvious desire to want to be trained. Our family appreciates Mr.Kessler coming out and training Zeus as we were having difficulties doing so on our own. Looking forward to our next session!

Michele is an incredibly talented pet sitter and animal lover. Our Emmet loved every minute Michele came to spend time with him! Not only did she play with him, she also began training him on basic commands, fed our fish AND got our mail for us! I put 100% trust into Michele and gave her complete freedom with training Emmet. I am certainly glad I did and look forward to many more visits and pet sitting opportunities!

Finally a trainer that knows what he’s doing!!!! I have been to petco training and even hired 3 other trainers to help with my dogs and have had horrible results even having to take my dog to emergency vet with hives because the other trainer stressed him out so bad. Right away I knew this guy was different. He took control and knew what he was seeing. My dogs have responded great and now listen and behave on command without being bribed with treats. I am sooo impressed!!! He is very flexible around your schedule and I wouldn’t recommend any other trainer. This guy knows what he’s doing!

WE Took our Yorkie Puppy to Ron and Melissa when he was 8 weeks old - they took him from our hands and kept him in their home for 18 days. We were really not sure what to expect. We had never had a dog trained before. Ron explained to us that dog training is misunderstood to never use food as a bribe - I was very skeptical but Ron came highly recommended bu a friend who was going to put their dog down until they met Ron so I was willing to give it a shot. His prices were reasonable considering the dog stayed in his home and not a kennel and all followup lessons are included. When we got our puppy back we were shocked!!! Not only did he listen - HE WAS HAPPY!!! We are ever so thankful to them and recommend ANYONE GETTING A PUP TO LOOK UP AZTEC DOG TRAINING AND PUPPY BOOTCAMP - It will be the best investment you will ever make...Thanks again Ron and Melissa

Hello out there dog lovers!Having a problem with your dog?Whether it be aggression, other dogs, small children, leash walking or just general obedience Janine is the woman you want on the other side of your dogs leash! I was having continuous issues with my German Shepard nixon with all the issues above. So I scouted around trying to find what would best serve my dog & receive the training he required. Janine came to my house and we spoke for about a good hour about what the problems were and how to best handle the situation being bestowed upon her.She was very thorough in Her line of questioning and was extremely attentive in what I had to say.Moving forward.janine took nixon for just over 2 weeks and came back a different dog! I had to drop him off at her house(which was good for I wanted to know where my dog was gonna be.)she was with him every moment of the day teaching Him leash walking skills, temperament with other animals, and Children(which were her own kids!)Needless to say that I was was the problem and not the dog. After I got my dog back she stayed with me for around 2 hrs explaining to me that in order for him to stay this way I had to continue in the training of him.after that Janine did a couple follow up visits to see how he was responding And 1of those visits we went to pet smart to see how he would react to other animals in my care...which was great! All the same, If you have any issues with your pet INSPIRED K9 is where you wanna take your dog!!! I can't thank her enough for the training & guidance I received from her and would like to say thank you again for all your hard work!!

Fido's Gym is the BEST and most FUN place for dogs EVER! I literally can't even say the word "gym" anymore around my Boxer Fiona because she starts whining and crying. She absolutely LOVES going to Fido's. Fiona is a white Boxer and she is very active as she's only 1 year old. Since she is white, she cannot be in the sun for more than a few minutes before getting sunburned. Fido's Gym was such a blessing for our family. Not only is the facility indoors and really large (for her to run around in) but it's super clean and there's tons of fun toys (and friends) for her to play with. I've noticed a significant change in her behavior (for the better) since bringing her to Fido's Gym and letting her socialize with other dogs as well as burn some over her Boxer energy off. Heather the owner of Fido's Gym is SO friendly and she's great with placing other dogs with the same temperament as your dog. She's an amazing dog trainer as well as a dog lover and you can tell right away when you meet her. I've met so many nice people (and pups) at Fido's and Fiona and I really look forward to going there each week. If your looking for a fun place to bring your dog, I would highly recommend Fido's Gym.

Brandy is patient with my labs. They are older dogs who were in serious need of training. I had thought all hope was lost but not so! They are following directions, playing well together and I can open my door without a scene. This happened with simple commands and patience. Brandy had to teach US how to be dog parents and lead our dogs. Still a work in progress but we can see positive results. Thank you!!!!!

    About

I became an animal trainer because of my love for animals and also to help people communicate with their pets. I worked as a dog trainer for 2 years after I graduated from college. After that, I worked for a company that trains animals for television and does the live animal shows at Universal Studios. I have just recently moved home and would like to continue caring for animals and helping owners understand their pets. I can pet sit, dog walk, or help train any pet.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
