We've only had 1 lesson but the difference in the dogs is astounding. The evening walk, usually a fight to get the dogs to do as told, was peaceful as we followed Georg's training. Thanks so much!!!

We really like Ashley. She has come to the house and helped us with our two Frenchies. Our main concern is potty training with one of the dogs. Our other concern is just general training. Our dogs really like her and she is a very caring and patient person. Ashley is very customer service oriented. She doesn't try and push you in to having her come more often than is needed. We really like that. She always sends us a reminder text the day before to make sure we are still able to meet with her. And if we have any questions or concerns about training she is more than willing to chat thru email. We really like that she gets back to us with a quick response. She has a bag full of treats which the boys love. We highly recommend Ashley for your dog training needs We can't thank her enough for helping our two fur babies!

What I liked about Susan's training is that she trained me how to train my dog. It would have been easy for her to train my dog, but what happens when we go home? Susan provided the foundation and dealt with each dog's specific issues. My work schedule changes frequently and she was flexible with me. She is a great trainer!

Met Laura thru Petsmart as we enrolled our rambunctious 3month old in her obedience classes. She was super patient (esp. with my parents who had never done any kind pet training despite growing up with dogs) and helped us to better communicate with Liah. Her training I feel has allowed us to bond with Liah in a way we had been able to do with previous fur family members. She was a great trainer of not only our pet family member Liah, but a great people trainer for Liah as well!! :)

Maureen is an excellent obedience trainer. When we had her train our unruly 8 month old lab his behavior improved dramatically. He is now able to follow several commands, and we are now able to take him practically everywhere. I would recommend Maureen for all of your dog training needs. She is an excellent trainer.

Not only did they provide me with a well mannered and intelligent companion but they also went above and beyond to bring him to me states away along with two outstanding trainers to help me with any questions and training lessons to know what to expect and how to play my part in taking in my new service dog. They help me along with so much that to say satisfied is a understatement. I genuinely appreciate everything this organization does and more. Dawn has been very accommodating to our family & puppies needs. She is very knowledgeable and has a calm demeanor while training our German Shepard Puppy, which was important to us being he is just a puppy. We plan on our puppy Moose to become a Therapy dog and excited Dawn has a great amount of experiences in this area of training. We did our research and found Dawn to be the most fitting for our puppy "Moose"

On a 5-star rating I'd like to give her a hundred thousand, million billion! This is the best investment I will ever make in anything related to an animal that I have. It will bless our lives every day forward for as long as my dog lives and will bless me with the next dog I have in the next after that. In the life of my dog it will end up being a fraction of a penny a day investment. The scale quality of Vanessa's her training has forever changed my dog's life and my life. It's actually made the difference of being able to keep my beloved pet. I've worked with him daily since I got him at 10 weeks old, he's always been a handful and I've never been effective with my training. This summer things spiraled out of control when he got aggressive with a housemate and a neighbor. I was scared to have hum around children because he would get aggressive with them as well. I was looking into the options of finding a new home for him, which broke my heart but I was trying to do what was best for the dog for the children in the neighborhood and for myself. I thank God we found Vanessa and her family that took my dog in for 2 weeks socialized thim trained him, helped him discover he could trust people to be the alpha and he could relax into just being a dog and a puppy. He is much more happy and relaxed than I have ever seen him. He minds me almost perfectly. He's safe around children men and unexpected visitors to our house now! I did my homework and talked to multiple trainers before choosing Vanessa.. Most of them their rate was double or triple Vanessa's and I didn't always like their approach. The fact that my dog got to live in her home and be fully socialized with her family I think made an enormous difference. This is the highest review I've ever given to any kind of business at any time. I can't overstate how good she is.

Christian is extremely patient, knowledgeable, and utilizes very effective methods. He has spent a number of sessions with our (stubborn) Wheaten puppy, Duncan. His caring nature and ability to connect with animals was obvious in our first lesson. He takes the time to also work with my husband and I to help us understand why our dog behaves the way he does, AND taught us the most practical ways to reinforce his training to make lasting improvements. Duncan has made unbelievable strides in obedience in a few short lessons and we plan to continue working with Christian in the future. Duncan used to pull on the leash endlessly, NEVER listened or obeyed, and thought he ran our household even at the age of 5 months. He now looks to us for commands with trust and performs them quickly, makes eye contact for permission, has come full circle on potty training, shows restraint with distractions (like other animals/people), and is an all around more well-adjusted, confident dog. I would recommend his services to any friend, family member, or coworker without a doubt. Dog training is an investment, but the value of what we have and will learn from Christian moving forward is unmatched in comparison to the other quotes I've received on Thumbtack. Having an obedient dog will change the dynamic of your household. If you're looking for a professional trainer, look no further than Wagging Tail Corps!

I have had the opportunity to observe Clara & Barry while training their newest service dog. Sabrina is a beautiful, intelligent puppy and has learned so much already. Clara & Barry train with love & rewards and Sabrina is eager to learn. She already knows lots of commands, like come, stay, down, shake, sit and roll over and she's also learning to go to the door when she wants out. Clara & Barry make a great team and someone will be so lucky to get one of their service dogs Dee O

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How old should a puppy be for training?

Dog training shouldn’t wait until you’re having behavior problems. If you get a new puppy, start from the beginning with professional training to give both you and your puppy the tools you need for a healthy relationship. Dog training is as much about teaching the owner how to interact with their new dog as it is about the dog learning to behave. Puppy training can start as early as eight weeks old. Trainers who offer puppy training programs may works specifically with dogs between the ages of 8 and 18 weeks old. Trainers can teach owners about potty training and how to deal with accidents, working with separation anxiety, and training your pooch out of destructive behaviors like chewing, biting and demand barking. Puppies will start to learn to walk on-leash and other basic skills.

In addition to behavior training, socializing your puppy is an important part of dog training. Socializing your dog means they become comfortable and confident in a variety of settings and have a great foundation for becoming a well-adjusted adult dog. After your puppy has had the proper vaccinations, you can start to introduce it to a variety of different dogs and people in safe settings.

Which dog training method is best?

The best type of dog training for both you and your dog depends on the outcomes you hope to achieve. If you want your dog to learn agility training, go to someone who specializes in those techniques. Regardless of whether you want your dog to learn basic behavior or competitive-level tricks, the majority of dog training is actually about training the owner how to communicate with their dog. Most professional dog trainers agree that a model of training based on positive reinforcement breeds a happy, healthy, well-adjusted dog. The alternative to positive reinforcement training is using force or aggression techniques like physical punishment or shock-collar training to get the dog to do (or not do) a behavior. While the dog may learn how to behavior as you direct, it is also learning to communicate with force and aggression, and will in turn use those behaviors on other dogs (or people) that are smaller or weaker than it is. Before signing up with a dog trainer, meet with the trainer and ask for references. Watch the trainer interact with your dog, and make sure they treat your dog with patience and firm kindness. Ask them questions about their training methods:

    • What type of training methods do you use?
    • What is your background and training, and how did you become a dog trainer?
    • How long do you expect that we will work together before we achieve the results I’m after?

How long does it take to train a puppy?

Dog training depends on the dog and how much homework the dog owner is willing to put in. Puppy training is similar to dog training in that the onus of the work depends on the owner learning new ways to interact with their dog. For a quick crash course, you can opt for a single, two hour smart-start puppy training consultation to teach you the ins and outs of being a new dog parent. You can learn how to manage potty training and what to do if the puppy experiences separation anxiety. As long as you’re willing to work on dog training a little bit each day, your puppy will quickly learn these new behaviors. If you’re not confident about training your puppy yourself, you can enroll in a 6- to 8-week puppy training course, with weekly lessons touching on everything from bite control to obedience. Puppies usually need to be at least three months old for group training classes. If you want more intensive one-on-one work, you can opt for private lessons. Some behavior problems can be resolved in one session if the dog owner learns and can implement new skills. In the case of more serious issues, 3 to 10 private sessions can typically correct challenges.
