Kim was extremely professional and friendly. I hired her to walk my 15 year old Siberian husky twice a day and give him medication twice a day. After the initial visit I felt very comfortable having her walk my baby and she did not disappoint! Would highly recommend her to anyone who needs dog sitting/walking services!

It was our first time using a pet sitter to stay overnight in our home and Madi made us feel extremely comfortable. You could immediately tell that she has a strong love of animals and our dog, Gracie, was drawn to her right away. Madi is extremely professional and we would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a trustworthy pet sitter.

Melanie is awesome! My dogs are my kids and I wouldn't leave their safety and care in the hands of just anyone. She is just as detail oriented and loving as I am and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone. She is assuredly a rare find...and has all of the necessary or required business management, insurance and other platforms in place. All in all, SOLID!!!!

    About

VanZoo is a full-service pet concierge in your home or in ours. Whether sitting, boarding or providing a pet taxi, we want you to feel secure knowing your pet is happy, relaxed and well supervised by experienced caregivers. Home Boarding, our most popular service, lets your dogs be our family while your family is away. Our home is located on five cleared acres. We live in a modest, clean and pet-oriented home. Our personal menagerie includes four socialized and friendly dogs, two dog-savvy cats that live in the non-dog areas, a flock of chickens and a small herd of goats, but the chickens and goats live outside in their own digs! We engage in free play, and the dogs have access to our couch, many comfy beds throughout the house or crates if they are comfortable in them. As long-time rescuers and animal people, we know what makes a pet happy and will do what it takes for them to relax and enjoy their stay. Generally, we have an average of seven dogs in our home at any given time. However, with our animal experience, and the wide open spaces we have available, the dogs seem to really enjoy the company. Our whole family takes part in the care and cuddling of our guests, so nobody feels left out. Pictures and/or videos are provided to you via text or email while you are gone and updates are provided as requested. We are reachable by phone, text or email and try to return communications within the hour whenever possible. With stays of three days or more, the dog will be bathed, because, well, we are in the country and dirt happens! Whatever your pet needs, VanZoo can do it for you!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
