Mr. Blalock arrived on time to start the job. He assessed the work to be done and got started right away. Very efficient and timely in his work. He was very polite. I also asked him to repair another spot on another wall and he was happy to oblige. Work was neat when finished and he even painted to match the existing color. He cleaned up after the job as well. Would have him do work for me again and would reccomend him to a friend.

We hired Valter to replace two faucets (one of with needed the wall to be cut open). He was on time, had everything with him, gave good suggestions, worked clean and professional. I will hire him again to renovate our whole master bathroom.

Julio did an excellent job withe various projects I had waiting for him. He arrived on time, is a hard wirker, professional, and very kind. He dismounted a large, heavy plasma tv from the wall, and patched and painted the holes left not only from the mounting system itself but also from the holes cut to hide the tv wires. There is NO trace of evidence that a tv once hung on the wall. He also expertly repaired holes in a bedroom door. I thought I'd need to replace entire door but after Julio repaired it, once again, thete is NO evidence that anything was ever wrong with the door. He also repaired ripped screen door & a sliding door. I was very satisfied with his work. You can't go wrong hiring Julio!

I can say enough about how pleased I am with Arijatos Inc. My husband and I have an infant at home and were interested in converting our den into a fourth bedroom for my mother to stay in over the summer by closing in one wall and adding French doors. This team was able to come out quickly for an estimate and provided a very reasonable quote including materials. They dropped off materials the night before the job began and I was pleasantly surprised that the quality of the door was better than what I would selected myself. On the morning of the job, their crew was early, prepared, neat, and courteous. They finished the job in one day and the owners checked in with us multiple times before, during, and after the project, including visiting the job site to ensure we were satisfied. I plan to use this team in the future for additional projects for sure!

I read all the reviews for this company and of the 3 choices thumbtack sent me, selected this one. I'm usually a word-of-mouth client, so hesitant to contract through thumbtack. Frank visited our home to review the job with no strings attached. His manner was professional and his skill and knowledge obvious. The revised thumbtack quote was too high for our budget, so Frank offered to return for a second visit to take out extras from a basic painting job (i.e. exclude painting of chair rail, frames, doors & adding crown moulding). His revised quote allowed for 5 different colors for 8 areas so we discussed mixing and matching. He was patient to work through this and offered advice, such as which of the 4 bedroom walls would have the accent color; and which color would be better below the chair rail in the main living areas and which above it. We appreciated the time he spent to discuss the painting plan. It was a bonus that wall repair was included in the quote. Frank completed the work in 4.5 days; to us that was record time. He worked diligently and expertly. He would advise us each afternoon of the spaces he would work on the next day; this allowed me to plan which part of the home to occupy. He showed up at a similar early time each morning soon after sunrise and left before dusk each day. This schedule worked out well for us. His guarantee of beautiful paint, smooth finish, two coats, all rang true. We were so pleased that by the 4th paint day we contracted with Frank to lay the special order hardwood flooring which arrived during the painting job on day 3. So he adjusted his schedule to then work 4.5 additional days in a row to lay the flooring in the same rooms he had just completed painting. Again, he followed a careful plan for laying out the cork base, then laying out the wood pieces, matching up color differences, separating out scratched pieces to cut for small spaces so the scratched areas became scrap, before starting the actual laying. He set up two outdoor sawing stations on each end of the home. We took pictures of both jobs as they were being completed, work in progress, and he did not mind any interruption. Along the way over these 9 days he assisted with small tasks such as moving the refrigerator for cleaning behind, discussing the type of kitchen cabinet knobs to install, and took down two track lights and one bathroom light at our request to apply the ceiling paint under those fixtures. He removed about 70 outlet covers of all types: phone, plug, switches, data ports, to paint behind, but unfortunately for us, left the task of replacing the new ones we purchased to move on to the flooring. We are so pleased with the quality of the workmanship and his professional manner that we are now asking for a quote for exterior painting. This was our first experience contracting through an electronic gateway; it worked out very well for us. We will recommend Frank to anyone who is in the market. Frank is welcome to attach photos of the finished project.

David was very nice and worked with us to get exactly what we wanted done. We had a wall added in our home with an added A/C vent. He framed in antique doors that we purchased. He was a great value for our money and really worked with us and within our budget. He went out of his way to help us. An area of improvement would be punctuality, but he did work within a short time frame because the wall was for a nursery! We would work with David again and recommend his work. Our wall and doors look amazing!

Edwin and his team did a fantastic job transforming our upstairs of our townhome. He and his team painted both our bedrooms and bathrooms, and the loft area, which included 20 ft tall walls. They also removed mirrors and bathroom hardware that we wanted removed, and patched, textured and painted those areas as if those items were never there. Throughout the process Edwin kept us informed of the progress they were doing and met the timeline he quoted us on. We look forward to working with Edwin and his team on more future projects and highly recommend him, super professional and does fantastic work.

My House Aluminum is Great! I am a builder so I have seen a lot of screens go up in my 15 years of business. We had, My House Aluminum build our personal pool enclosure. They built a 50x46 enclosure over our pool. They use quality materials and built the screen in the time line we were quoted. These guys are organized, prompt, and reliable. I refer them to everyone who asks me for a referral. Very professional. Keep up the good work, guys! A++++++ Richard Hanahoe www.crownhomegroup.com

We contacted S&T with hopes to get our home project (Crown Molding) completed in time for the Holidays. We spoke with Darwin and explained our personal needs, time frame etc. and without hesitation Darwin met with us for an overview. After agreeing on price which also included accompanying our time frame, Darwin went to work. Although the builder of our home was rather rough with roof angles, Darwin and his team were able to pull off what seemed to be lengthy and impossible in the time frame given to him! We were very pleased with the finish product which looks fantastic and even better so during our Holiday celebrations! AND Darwin made our time frame! Would use again as Darwin and his team are multi-faceted and would highly recommend! THANKS S&T!

His work was excellent. They took time to do a good job with lots of attention to detail. Very friendly and professional team.

Mr. Snook has handled several large and small projects for my home, all on time and on budget. He did an outstanding job upgrading my living room with laminate flooring, new paint, lighting, and mounting my flat screen TV with concealed wiring and cables. He also completely remodeled my patio and transformed it into a beautiful outdoor living space which I use daily (tiled floor, installed ceiling fan and sun shade, wall mounted tv). In addition to the actual remodeling work, Mr. Snook was extremely helpful in planning the interior design elements of both rooms. He is also quite skilled at less "fun" but very necessary home repair projects, including replacing my water heater and a leaky toilet and repairing water damaged drywall. I was thoroughly pleased with all of Mr. Snook's work and will without question use him for my future home remodeling and repair needs. I have recommended Mr. Snook to several family members and friends. He did an amazing job completely remodeling my mother's 1980's era bathrooms, which substantially increased the resale value of her home and led to a quick sale when listed. Joanne L.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
