Joe and his crew did a great job on my lawn. He was very professional and keep me updated on his progress on this initial lawn service. He also offered me recommendations on how to improve my landscape needs. I would recommend A Better Clean and Cut to you. Thanks Joe!

I knew the minute that Jonathan came to my home to provide a quote that he was the contractor that I would choose. Sometimes you have a "gut" feeling! Well I did. And I was right on! He is a "Consummate Professional". Every other contractor that came out was only interested in "forming and pouring" concrete. Jonathan was more interested in providing the right solution for my very irregular terrain. He broke out a laser and ensured that he would be able to provide me the product I wanted for the price he quoted. In the end that is exactly what he did. In fact I had him do several other projects and I will have him back for another very large pole barn that I will be building in the very near future. I have had many, many contractors at my home in the last 6 months and NONE this good. If you are looking for any kind of concrete, paver tractor work, grading, block work, bulk head design and installation, stone or brick work, fire pits, landscape and garden additions, decks – look no further!!! Use Jonathan and TerraPros!! 2/10/2015 This is for the succeeding job that TerraPros did. TerraPro is amazing. I hired them previously and had them back to do extensive work on my very long driveway. Jonathan and TerraPros also did a large patio with crushed granite terrace, crushed granite walkways, a fire pit, sod, grading and some extensive landscaping. He is a consummate professional that knows his stuff. His concrete work is magnificent. I had a very large area that was multi-level and had tree roots that had to be maintained. Jonathan used a laser level and made sure that once the concrete was poured I would never have any issues with water drainage. No water ever comes near the house - even in the most severe rains the water sheds exactly as he had designed it. His landscaping design work matches what we were looking for on our property to a tee. I have several more very large jobs including a bulk head and a pole barn and Jonathan with TerraPros is my Go To man and company. His work ethic is beyond reproach. I will never use anyone else. If you are looking for a contractor for masonry, landscaping, carpentry you really should look no further.

I hired Mark to install wired pathway lights for me. He was prompt, professional, and honest/straight-forward. One of the lights had a loose connection and he came back the next day and fixed it without any concerns (no additional charge - he stands behind his work). Price was competitive and I plan to use him again.

Jonathan maintained my yard in Gainesville for about 4 years; he also installed some landscaping beds and added mulch once a year. He does very nice work, my yard looked great, but more importantly Jonathan is professional, personable, easy to work with and easy to talk to.

We had a major overhaul of our front yard landscape involving the removal of numerous hedges and plants and replanting a variety of new plants. Paul Gasperson was outstanding from start to finish. He came recommended by a neighbor and we were thrilled with his work. He gave us practical ideas along with the landscape designer that proved very successful. One suggestion in particular saved us from unnecessarily having to tear out a large section of grass. Paul was reliable and a pleasure to work with. My wife and I could appreciate the pride he took in his work and hired him past the initial project and still have him come do our routine yard and lawn maintenance. I would recommend Paul without hesitation.

I had several palm trees installed with stack wall around them. The job was completed quickly and they did no damage to the rest of the yard during the process. Highly recommend.

I have already used Craig for several projects and he exceeds my expectations every single time. The most recent project he completed is a paver patio that turned out just beautiful. Everyone that sees it loves it! He is a perfectionist and if you want amazing quality from an honest, hard-worker who is trustworthy and reliable, then you should contact him. His landscaping design is top notch - has such a good eye for knowing what looks best and where. He also installed my four board fence and it turned out solid & gorgeous! Fantastic work and beautiful results every time!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

      • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
      • Read online reviews of client experiences.
      • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
      • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
      • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
