FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I practically grew up on a farm in Alabama with multiple dogs my whole life. I realized at an early age, when I spoke to dogs..they listened. There was no doubt about it, I knew I would be surrounded by animals for the rest of my life. At the time, I didn't consider it work...to this day I don't consider it work. It's a technique that I share to strengthen the bond of dogs and owners.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you are looking to hire someone in this field, you should have a set amount of questions prepared to ask. See if they know any information about your breed and its individual characteristics? Have they ever worked with them before? Be sure to tell them your problem that you need training/behavior modification for, and ask; have you ever had to deal with something like this before, and what were the results?
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
It's very important that you know your animal is not a robot or programmed to respond like one. You should have a healthy relationship with your dog where they know who is in control. Training your dog is healthy and is something that should be done on a daily basis. Dog's love for their brain to be worked even if it's simply sitting for a treat or opening the refrigerator door for the handicapped. All of this takes time and a lot of homework. When done right, results are immediate...the most important is following through with them on a daily and weekly basis.
