Lyne P. says, "We hired Launce from Crawlspace FL to complete foundation repairs at our property and we were pleased with the results. From start to finish, Launce was professional, communicative, and efficient. He took the time to explain the scope of work clearly, answered all our questions thoroughly, and ensured that everything was done to a high standard. His team was respectful, on time, and kept us informed with images of their work throughout the process. Not only did Launce complete the job quickly, but he also made sure the repairs would meet FHA inspection standards — which is critical for our upcoming sale. Knowing we could count on him to assist if any follow-up was needed brought us great peace of mind. We highly recommend Crawlspace FL to anyone in need of foundation work. Launce truly knows his craft and stands behind his work with integrity and professionalism."See more

Russ Smith says, "Alpha Foundations is a company that's been around for approximately 22 years, and that in itself speaks volumes. They have to be doing something right and that goes for the people they hire as well. I was needing some brick columns on each side of my garage lifted where I had some cracks from the ground settling. As my luck would have it, problems arised where there was a gap between the footing for the brick and the actual foundation. My Alpha Foundation crew which consisted of Donald, Jake and Emmanuel were by far the most compendent group of guys they could have sent over for my job. Once my problem was discovered, Donald had a game plan to tackle it. Other than going with his instinct, he called their engineer and explained to Daniel the situation and came up with a game plan to proceed, Donald nail it. It required an additional four Helicals which unfortunately increased the cost to complete. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting that, but Donald explained the how and why of needing to stabilize both the foundation and the brick footing. The work continued on with Jake, Emmanuel, and Donald. They worked their butt's off all day with the heat index over 100 degrees. They were consistently doing something the entire time. The best part was that they were very polite, and respectful to me and my property. I honestly believe no one could keep up with those three. It wasn't a rush job, but a thorough job. Yes, these types of home projects are expensive, but to get it done right requires a company that has the experience and the personnel to do it right. Thank you Donald, Jake and Emmanuel for your kindness and Alpha Foundations for providing a top notch experience.Russ Smith"See more

Andrew Fountain says, "My daughter recommended The Fast Floor Company to me based on the excellent work and service she received during a previous project. My experience with them was equally amazing. Paula expertly planned my project, which involved selecting new flooring, walking me through the process of removing the old carpet, coordinating furniture moves, and installing new vinyl in three rooms and two small closets. The entire project was executed seamlessly and completed in just a few short hours. On top of that, their pricing is very reasonable. A huge thank you to Paula for making this such a smooth experiencethis is just one of many projects for my sister's home renovation. I will definitely be recommending The Fast Floor Company to anyone in need of flooring services!"See more

Katarina M. says, "VP Remodeling. The only team for your tile work. Pleasant. From the first interaction Danillo and his team were pleasant. Easy to communicate with. I told them what I wanted and they listened. What I said mattered to them. That is important. My vision was not discounted for what they thought I should have. Professional. Danillo quoted a price and what it all entailed. That is what I paid. I was told how long the work would take and that’s how long it took. The team is not outsourced. Who you see is who is doing the work. Danillo was onsite every day to make sure not only that the work was getting done, but that I was happy with the work being done! The team is incredibly hard working. No sitting around. These men work! Perfectionists. The cement work was lovely. No excess. The foundation was smooth and silky. Prior to pouring, I was asked again the parameters to make certain they are doing what I want. The tile work!!! Tile master is more like it. Before installing the team laid out the patterned tiles so I could see how it will look. The layout was beautiful but the finished product was gorgeous!!! The cement master and tile master had to go around groves and objects. The fit of the cement and tiles? Perfection. In the end Danillo and his Team exceeded my expectation. The backyard is stunning. My neighbors were so impressed that Danillo already has 2 new customers. Danillo said that he wants to make certain his clients smile. I was grinning from ear to ear from day 1. On day 5 I was jumping for joy."See more

FAQs

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

On average, brick repairs will cost you around $500, with a range of between $350 and $600. However, be aware that a number of factors will have a large influence on this cost. First is the severity of the problem. Some brick repairs are as simple as applying new mortar — others require removing the brick entirely and fixing the substrate. If budget is a concern, contact several brick masons for cost estimates to find the best price in your area.

Because unsealed concrete is porous, it readily absorbs liquids, leading to unsightly stains and freeze-and-thaw cycle damage. For this reason, it’s important to seal concrete that will see spills or outdoor weather.

The best option for garage floors and other high-traffic areas is epoxy, which forms a hard and extremely durable surface on top of concrete. Epoxy, acrylic, and polishes are often used on indoor floors, while acrylic-resin sealers and reactive penetrating sealers are used on outdoor surfaces to repel water and salt. Locate a concrete contractor in your area to help find the best solution.

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time. When hiring a paving contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

Concrete contractors can build foundations, structures, driveways, concrete storm drains, raise or level concrete patios and much more. They can handle every step of the process, starting with framing the mold that the concrete is poured into. They then cut, assemble and tie together the rebar, giving the concrete its tensile strength. Finally, they pour the concrete in, mixing and conditioning it to ensure it cures properly. They will also take steps to ensure that no air pockets are trapped within it.

If you have a project that requires the help of a concrete contractor, reach out to one today to get a price estimate.

Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

It depends. Sometimes, you might not require repair work — but you should still hire a professional to see if the cracks in your bricks are a serious threat to your home’s foundation and structural integrity.

Cracks (particularly larger cracks) can present a problem. If you have stair-step cracks or horizontal cracks, there may be an issue with your home’s foundation. Wider cracks can also allow water to infiltrate and cause damage from freezing and thawing. Insects can also enter wider cracks and cause more problems (and headaches).

If you have brick and stone repairs that need to be done, search for masonry services near you. Masons are skilled tradespeople and specialize in building and repairing stone, brick, concrete, tile and other similar materials on structures. They work with these materials as well as the mortar that holds them together and are the pro of choice when repairs are needed.

Hire the right mason based on the repairs you need — some masons specialize in working with brick, concrete, natural stone or other materials.

A concrete paint cover is typically opaque and covers up the color of the concrete. This means it provides significant protection to the concrete below. However, if it is improperly applied or subjected to heavy traffic, a painted concrete floor is likely to chip and peel.

Epoxy and staining are two types of concrete floor sealer. Epoxy is a more durable but often more expensive option than a concrete stain. Epoxy forms a protective layer, while concrete stain is more decorative and requires more maintenance. Because epoxy can be more expensive than concrete stain, it is best used in high-traffic areas or in applications where low maintenance is desired.

A concrete stain, on the other hand, is quick to apply and can show off the textures of the concrete, but it does not provide a high degree of protection for the concrete against spills, salt, water and other contaminants. Staining concrete generally requires a dust mop, a pH-neutral cleaner and water to clean, while epoxy can cause resin buildup that necessitates the use of special detergents.

Find a concrete contractor near you for help selecting the right floor concrete sealer.

A stone mason builds structures like buildings, walls and piers out of stone. They may use natural stone, pre-cut stone, slabs or other types of stone to get the job done. Other jobs stone masons take on include laying walkways, curbs, pizza ovens and other structures or landscaping works. It’s common to hire a stone mason to perform certain parts of home building, such as an interior or exterior stone wall.

Crumbling bricks, otherwise known as spalling bricks, can often be repaired. The process involves removing and repairing the damaged mortar, cleaning the surface and then also removing any damaged bricks to prevent the problem from spreading. Contact a brick mason near you to fix your crumbling bricks.
