FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
My first paid job was in ninth or tenth grade when I was hired to tutor a younger student taking Algebra I. We both enjoyed it, and I was asked to continue tutoring her through the following year reinforcing Algebra and coming-alongside in Geometry. I taught swimming and Red Cross courses for years as I put myself through my Mathematics Education degree at Ohio State.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
There are two types of services I provide: 1. For homeschoolers, I teach the material to them and they either take a test or virtual on-line class for the credit. 2. For students in a traditional class, I start with providing assistance for material learned in class, but move toward helping them develop the skill to preview and learn the material before they enter the classroom, so that the class setting reinforces what they have already started learning.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
- Keep the door open for continuing or exiting if the Tutor is not a good match for you or your child. - If your child is under 18, please be present during the session. - Check prior references/testimonials.
