I needed a "to scale" rendering of my pool & deck design. Mario was professional & had my drawings to me the following day. It was a pleasure to work with him.

It was indeed a pleasure and a surprise that I found LeVon Designs Homes. LeVon is a gifted young man that has a very bright future in the field of architectural design. After a slab leak in our Master Bathroom, we contacted him. He gave us 3 design possibilities we would never have envisioned. He was timely and we worked quite well with him. His drawings were great and we are still quite excited about our renovated bathroom. It is definitely an upscale spa that anyone would love to have in their home and we are just blessed to have had this young man design such a beautiful space for us.

I worked with Daniel Martinez, the principal of DMA Architecture & Design, on this project and several others of like scale and complexity. He was extremely focused on the structural constraints, and regularly attendant with construction supervision, as well. On this particular project, his organizational skills were immediately apparent, supervising the creation of the construction documents and ensuring that the plan set completely explained the scope of work. Although it was quite a few years ago, I still have construction inspection photos in my personal library. Mr. Martinez is as close to a Renaissance Man as I have ever met. I recommend him fully and without hesitation.

Christina was able to help get us started with our dream design of a two single car garage plan under what seemed impossible conditions. We literally were about to start looking for another home. Although the builder needed to use their own architect to get us an affordable price (a one stop shop type company) we really appreciated her help with an idea that would start us on our path to making our dream a reality. They really went above and beyond what you'd expect from a designer and we would highly recommend them for any design work you may need. God bless them for their compassion and we pray for success in all their ventures.

Residual Images has proven to be the gold standard in what I’ve come to expect from a graphic designer and artist. I was able to pour out and express a vision and Residual Images was able to receive the message, process and channel it through their artistic lens and pour it into a mold defined by the aesthetics and rules of graphic design. With a clear artistic vision and the greatness in his craft as a graphic designer, I felt as though he took the image out of my brain and placed it on a movie poster. He did all this with a level of professionalism and artistic prowess I have yet to see any others display. An attention to detail with an ability to perceive the macro vision as well; Residual Images indeed. Thank you for value well delivered. Cheers

Overall experience was excellent. We wanted quartz countertops, but didn't want to spend a fortune. L & S had the best prices by a long shot. Their square foot price was close to other contractors, but they didn't have any "additional" fees like everyone else. Stephen came out to give us a quote and was very professional. He also showed up on time....unlike some other contractors. Watching him make the template was an interesting experience, I've always wandered how they do make the templates. We waited 5 days for the countertops to get made and then Stephen returned with another installer and they installed our Mountain Mist Silestone countertops. It took most of the day for them to install everything, but it was well worth it. My wife and I are so happy with our new countertops and we're very happy that we went with L & S for this project. After using contractors in the past, this was by far the best experience we've had.

My Primary job functions typically require exercising independent judgment, but i always ask before making major modifications of the project, and typically report have our supervisor or manager have the final revisions before project is submitted. I would talk with the clients to show updated floor plans using Autocad and Revit, walkthroughs and flyovers on how the building would look before the project was completed

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How do architects work?

Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

How do architects charge for their services?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
