Introduction: I tutor with the outcome in mind - be it completing homework or preparing for any kind of test. I am not trying, in the tutoring, to make students 'mathematicians'. I am attempting to prepare them for the activity that they are doing. I teach math at 'career colleges' such as the Art Institute of Tampa, South University (health professions) and ITT Tech. There I emphasize the practical and utilitarian side of all math processes and procedures. My satisfaction is two-fold. I like it when a student says 'This is the first 'A' or 'B' that I have ever received in a math course. Thanks for you help, Mr. Lerch'. Also I like to see the spark in the eye of a student what begins to understand and internalize a math concept that has eluded them for years.

Mr. Lerch has been a blessing for my son Kai. He has helped him gain more confidence in Math and occasionally worked with him on Chemistry. My sons grades have improved. Mr. Lerch is very patient and thorough in his tutoring, very punctual as well. Mr. Lerch has been working with my son for two years now and our family is so grateful for him. I highly recommend Mr. Lerch to any student struggling with math and in need of a tutor.

Tutor didn’t show up as scheduled for first session. No communication whatsoever regarding why he did not show up. My daughter had everything prepared for session and was so disappointed with not getting extra help for her test the next day.

You are absolutely correct to give me this review. I am very sorry to have disappointed your daughter. Two things happened. My wife had an episode and had to be driven to the emergency room. This happens once a month or so. My phone lost its charge as I was with her prior to the episode and I forgot to set it up on the charger before we went to the hospital. I would love a chance to do it again next Thursday, but I do understand if this is not possible. Jim Lerch 727-644-5566.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30 per hour for all of my services.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start by having the customer explain the reason that they are seeking a tutor. Then we look at any study materials that the student may have brought to the session. This may include textbooks, present and past homework assignments, prior tests and reviews for upcoming tests. The student will explain and demonstrate from this material why they need the tutoring. I will then begin to plan a series of lessons based on the information that the student has provided.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I attend continuing education experiences on a regular basis. Each of my 3 employers require a minimum of 12 hours per year (36 hours) of webinars, seminars and meetings. Subjects range from improving teaching practices, classroom management, tutoring techniques, dealing with disabled students, among others.
