Needing professional help with home projects is daunting to say the least. Ken Green from Progreen Irrigation & Pump Service did a fantastic job. He put my mind at ease just simply by being on time, very professional, explaining issues as the job progressed and being a super trouble shooter. He believes in honesty and making sure everything is right. He listened to my concerns with an open mind. I'm so pleased with the outcome and certainly will call him for all my irrigation needs.

We were so impressed with Kathy and George’s work. They took our overgrown weed filled yard and transformed it into a beautiful masterpiece in just one day! There are so many good things to say about this pro team so let me start with how she arrived early to the appointment and the following day (unlike so many other contractors we’ve had in the past) so that impressed us right away. Just moving here from IL to New Port Richey we were clueless on how to take care of the palm trees and bushes, and what to do to give our home some much needed curb appeal. George was awesome in cutting back the overgrown palms, offering his expertise in plant care, and giving me great suggestions for what flowers and plants to get. Kathy and George worked hard all day pulling out weeds, laying red mulch, and planting the plants and flowers. Everything turned out so beautiful even the neighbors complimented on what a nice job they did! We continue to be so happy and proud of our yard thanks to these friendly, hardworking pros. Kathy is awesome! Don’t hesitate to call her for an appointment!

I had pvc pipe leak due to thick tree roots being wrapped around. Since my water was turned off at valve box due to leak, Naty stated that he wouldnt charge more cuz it was Sunday and that my family needs water in the house. I was impressed by his caring attitude. I recommended him to a neighbor (walked up) that was looking for a qualifed person to work on their irrigation system. Thank you to Thumbtack for connecting Naty's business for my needs!!

Working with Ironclad Landscape Management and Bret was an absolute pleasure. After not even getting call backs from some irrigation companies and receiving outrageous quotes from others, Bret far exceeded my expectations. Not only was the work done quickly but he took the time to explain what he was doing and why. I was very impressed with his friendliness and professionalism and look forward to working with him and Ironclad in the future.

Lou is an amazing handyman. He is very professional, he came in and assessed the project and provided me with a quote, even though he encountered a lot of issues due to the previous contractors work he still maintained his original assessment and completed the project with professionalism. I will be contacting him again for my future projects for sure and i would advise the next client to do the same.

Kevin and his team did an outstanding job and to fully understand how outstanding I need to provide some context. I had to replace my septic drain field and during the process the septic company destroyed my front yard. Irragation system was in pieces and my yard was now just dirt. I had to use two irrigation companies that charged me way too much and their work was poor at best. I had several companies provide me quotes for removing the left over sod and I stalling new sod. All of the estimates except for Kevin where way over priced and provided no information on how they would complete the work. Kevin explained the different sod options, gave me a detail quote for each area of the work, and the date when he would complete everything. No prepayment. During the sod installation, Kevin noticed that the sod was below the quality he expects, 1/2 of the sod was bad. He explained what the issue was and worked with the sod management company to replace the bad sod at no cost to me. That attention to detail and pride in his work is seldom seen. Sod is I stalled, looks awesome and neighbors are giving me complements. Highly recommend Kevin and his team!!

The team completed the lawn installation project on schedule at the agreed-upon cost (which was very reasonable). Team members were courteous and professional, and everything seems to be fine, so far. Premier Lawnscaping is also providing us with lawn maintenance services (also reasonably priced) for at least the next several months to help ensure a continued good outcome with this installation. We're likely to use their services for a second project - just waiting a little while to see how this first installation fares over time. This first project included: complete replacement of existing lawn, adjustments to existing irrigation system, and additions of edging and a few new plants.

Bobby and his son rebuilt 3 out of 4 zones of my irrigation system that were destroyed during a pool build. The services were performed exactly as agreed upon and they far exceeded my expectations. Bobby was very fair when it came to pricing and did not try to sell me on stuff that I did not need. We ran into some additional work that needed to be done and he stuck to the same fair pricing for that work as well. They were very clean, punctual, and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends and family and will be using Bobby for any of my future irrigation needs.

5+ Star: Would highly recommend and hire again. Quick response to my Thumbtack.com request for an irrigation system installation and sod replacement. Quote provided within 24 hours, great communications via telephone and email, answered all my questions, provided an insurance policy and was selected after receiving 3+ additional quotes. Scope of work and price was very fair for the labor and materials provided. On-time, on schedule. I was called when delayed by his (2) sod vendors. Answered his phone every time I called, within 3 rings. No voicemail, no excuses, just outstanding customer service. Very satisfied!

Morne was very responsive and took time to communicate & recommend options for new plants where he removed old and tired/dead hedges and Crepe Myrtles. His designs where spot on and the reshaped planted beds was exactly what we wanted. We are very happy with the end result and would re-hire him again and recommend him and his teams. New Irrigation, New Sod, 22 Topiaries, 64 Burford Hollies & Mulch. Thank you. D. Alexander

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
